Post subject:  Part time?

Went for a day trip to the badlands today and had a great run. however, as i was driving back to the exit to leave, i dropped it into 2hi but the part time light came on and stayed on. i thought it might just be missing so i pulled it into 4hi and the part time light went away. now i know for a fact that the kj is in 2 wheel when i place it in 2hi, but, why would this light be reversed? i turned it off and on several times with the same results. i drove home no problems ... other than staring at that little light (freaked me out for a while just thinking what if). anyone else have this problem before?

I have this problem now also. Went out to the back of a friends field to do some target shooting. I dropped it into 4lo since there was a small amount of mud to go through. On the way out, I took it out of 4lo and noticed the Part Time indicator light is swapped. It comes on when its in 2hi and goes out in 4hi.

Any fix for this? It looks like just leaving it alone it may fix itself?

Do you have a part number for this?

I can't seem to find the part# but I think it's a dealer only part. So you may have to call them. Unless somebody else has it.

Same thing happened to me a few years back. The dealer wanted $600 to replace that sensor back in '06.

I ended up not replacing the sensor. 8) It shifts in and out of 4WD just fine.

Did you replace this part on your KJ? Did it fix the problem?

The switch is located on top of the transfer case. Not much room at all to work up in there. Probably have to remove the transfer case to get at it. Thats where all the labor is. So the cost mostly labor, but even $60 is high for a switch.

I wonder if removing the shifter gives any easier access to it?

if you use your 4 wheel enough it will fix itself...its happened to mine multiple times and has always fixed itself...it only has to do with the transition of the shifting not the sensor itself. if its not completely smooth than the sensor triggers even though you my not have gone in/out of 4HI

Where do you spray the silicon at? I'm assuming that you talking about pulling the boot up and spraying the shifter...

Well yea you could there too...but if you get underneath you will see the shift cable just in front of the DS crossmember. Its silver so it stood out for me! Just spray it and work the lever up and down should free it up some....i know it did for mine.
