If you could only get 1 skid for youre KJ what would it be...currently I can afford 1 skid and tryin to figure out which one would be most important? Or should I get rock rails before skids? Thanks! |

If you're going the mopar route, you can probably buy all of the skids for the price of a set of rock rails. I think if money was very tight I'd work through buying the four mopar skids and then save for rock rails. As for which is the most important, I wouldn't say. I'd probably get transfer case last as it is moderately protected by the crossmember, but transmission, engine, and gas tank are all hanging out in the wind. |

I'd go with the front engine/suspension skid. Thats what you end up hitting first and the hardest usually. Well, thats usually what happens in my case. When I got my KJ the front skid had barely a scratch on it and now its all scuffed up and missing a lot of paint so I know it has been used a lot. And you don't want to slam hard on your front diff and crack it, now do you? lol |

idk, if you got a lift, the front shouldnt be TOO bad, but if you can squeeze it, get the mopar tranny and front...dont wanna mess up that oil pan |

Nope. I know those are beyond your price range if you're saving for one mopar skid at a time. I'm buying mopar skids of a guy to use for reference. Once I'm done with my designs I'm going to resell them for the same price hopefully. As long as I get the skids off his jeep soon (stinkin nutserts spinning & round bolts) I'll probably need a couple / three months with them. I do have a gas tank skid that is like my aluminum one but made of 10 gage steel that I used for a preliminary fit prototype. I'd sell it for $125 just to cover some of its cost. I would rate it about as strong as a Kilby or a rusty's, far superior to the mopar. Shipping to you would probably run about 50-75 dollars though, but that is a wild guess... If you're interested I'll take some pictures of it and get an accurate shipping quote. Just give me your zip code. |

If I could only afford one, I'd get the engine skid. And then I'd stick to pavement until I got the others. |

Thats why you make your own skid in front of it! |

What it protects.............. Front skid(AKA engine skid)--front diff--cost of new diff is $1400+ Transmission skid--back part of oil pan and the trans pan--cost of new engine is $5000+,new trans is $3000+ Transfer case skid--t-case and costs $500-$1200 Gas tank skid--Gas tank and a new one costs $650+ As you can see they are all equally important. |

Personally I'd get the t-case skid. It seems to be the most open to damage. |

I'd just save up and buy all 4 Mopar skids. I was able to buy them from my local dealer here in BC for just over $300CAD. Worth every penny |
