Post subject:  lift kit install... HELP!!

ok so today i spent 8 hours installing my BDS 2 inch suspension lift kit from 4 wheel drive... they said i didnt need new front struts but i bought new ones anyway....

the front was by far the hardest.... pain in the you know what . the rear was a piece of cake. anyway..

my questtion is now that i have my lift i hear a high pitch squeaking which sems to be coming from the strut. i bought the sugessted rancho struts... RSX17505.... also the plastic shield seems to be moving up and down way to much.. i know this is not normal. when it moves up and down all i hear is a clunk and bang... ANY SUGGESTIONS as to why this is like this?

also... is the suspeniosn supposed to be very loose or hard? i mean i am able to move the liberty up and down very easily.. and it squeaks and rattles SO SO SO bad ight now...

i am beat right now... 8 hours in a garage kills you. any help on what this is.. (ven though it is really hard to explain what it is over the internet and with out the experts here) will be very very needed...

thanks guys..

tomorrow i am bringing it to my buddys shop... let them look over it. and hopefully nothing to severe is bad...

ugh.....

sounds like you did not tighten the nut on the strut down enough. Did you compress the coils your self or have someone do them. The plastic shield should not move at all.
We did Boilers lift today and no noises at all from it

suspension should not be loose, I would check everything real well before driving it at all!

8 hours

yea i know what you mean... with the plastic shield... it does move up anddown freely.. both sides.. as for the skeaaking sound.. it seems like it is coming from the passenger side strut.. i am beat long long day...

tomoroww i am bringing it to my buddy's shop.. let them look at it..

8 hours was off and on..... we were just talking alot and then we stopped for some lunch and some beer breaks....

we torque \everythin g top the specific requirments... according to the instructions.... 110ftlbs for the UCA..... 110 for the bottom.... 85 for the sway bar... and 50 for the strut bolt plate..... these were from the ionstructions..are they wrong????

But it sound like you didn't get the one on top of the strut tight enough, allowing the strut rod to move around in the bushng causing your squeak.
8hrs? man, must've been a lot of beer breaks....

lots of beer breaks... lol

so stupidity at its finest... you know how after you do sometype of mechanicla work... usually some extra parts yopu find? well as it turns out... we didnt even put in the pastic bushings for the strut tower... as my mechanic said tha tis whats causing the squeakling... the metal rod is rubbing up and down on the metal washer and it does not have any padding on it.... does this sound right? like i said before my mechanical skills are limited so this is all new to me.. but i do like to learn about this stuff.

my mechanic guy is going ot be fixing it up tomorow if he gets to it.. i told him do what ever needs to be done... i am not going to drive it till its fixed. lol

on a side note... the jeep does look pretty cool sitting up higher... he noticed it right away along with all of the other mechanics at his shop.

Update...

My Lift is now officially done.... i just finished it with my buddy.. 4 days later... had no time to work on it so i had to rent a car.. pain in the butt..

but now i am a pro as to taking apart my front end and reinstalling everything...

everything is torqued to the required specs. also

anyway i am so excited. the bushings were the problem that was causing all the noise.. as some of you know the strut was almost bottoming out.. if that makes sense... and when the bushings were put in... 2 on each side, so quiet... and no more SQUEAKING!!!

SWeet...

anyway thanks for all your help and information... def much needed. .... i'll try to post some pics soon.

Glad you got it resolved. When you sent me that message, I didn't think anything like this. I just figured it was the regular sqeak here and there you might hear. Or maybe once you put in your own lift yourself, you become paranoid to every sound. I know I did.

POST PICTURES!!! 8) Go BDS.
