I just had an Detrioit LSD installed and a whole new housing with gearing and pinion gear since I ruined it. It is not all the time, but when I slow down or even when Im driving I hear almost like a growling/vibration that sounds like its coming from the front. Is it supposed to be that way, this is my first LSD so not really sure?

If it was set up right, it shouldn't make any noises period. Take it back to whoever did the work and have them fix it.

That's the thing, Im not going back to that bozo! He gave me a price for the work and when I went to pick it up he tried to charge me almost double, telling me that he had made an error, blah blah blah. Anyone know anyone in South Jersey I could take it to?

By the way, it only makes that vibration sound when not engaged, is that normal?

It shouldn't make any nose engaged or disengaged. ANy chance it is a grinding sound? That would be really bad. Be sure that whoever you take it to documents (PHOTOS!) the disassembly, condition of the gears, etc. It sounds like you might have some expensive repairs that warrant a lawsuit on "bozo the mechanic", assuming he refuses to do the right thing from the begining.

I wouldn't drive it anymore than I had to , get it into a shop right away and have it checked real close, not worth having all your money grind away!

Ok, so I had the front diff serviced, they reset the pinion and needed bearing. Now, I have had it back for about a week and its starting to make that noise again. It sounds kinda like if you have a a small stick stuck in your wheel and becomes real noticable when you slow down. Any suggestions?
