Ok, I think I am trying to find out if there is a rear end outer seal for the axle, I have been getting dif fluid leaking onto the inside of my rims for awhile now but no major change in my rear dif fluid level.
So is there a seperate seal at the tires or is it all in and around the dif? How hard would it be to change this? Cost for the seals?

Thanks

Yes, there is a wheel seal as it is called at the end of the axle tube. In order to change it, you will have to drain the diff, pull the cross shaft and remove the c clip. The remove the axle shaft. remove the old seal and install a new one. You can use either a large socket or a piece of 2x4 to install the new seal. After the seal has been beaten in, re install every thing..... The seal was less than 15 bucks from what I remember

What ^he^ said.

Take a good look at the bearing while you have it apart. I'd replace it while in there and I'd also go ahead and do the other side too for peace of mind. My luck, the other side would crap out as soon as I finished up the leaky side.

Anyone know where to find a good write up on removing c clip style axles? I have to do this as well.

It's easy! :D

remove the caliper and rotor. Open up the diff and remove the 8mm bolt that holds in the cross shaft (spider gear shaft) and remove the shaft. Caution! Do not move the diff while the cross shaft is removed other wise you will be learning how ot re walk in the spiders. After the cross shaft is gone, push in on the axle shaft and use a magnet to grab the clip. After the clip is removed, pull the shaft out of the axle housing....

Both sides are leaking, so diffently will be doing both.

Is this the right one for the bearing:
Rear Wheel Bearing by Crown Automotive
Part Number: CRO3507898AB
2000-01 XJ Cherokee w/Chrysler 8-1/4" Rear Axle
2002-07 Liberty w/Chrysler 8-1/4" Rear Axle

Also, how much dif fluid is held in the rear axle, not just the dif?

Above number on bearing looks like what I saw online. There should be little gear oil in the axle tubes. Total for the rear is about 2 qts.

Before ripping anything apart pull up/down on the wheel(while in the air) to check for any play in the axle bearing, any play and the bearings must be replaced. Also when replacing the bearing you must measure the bearing surface on the axle,if it below a certain spec you must also replace the axle also(Off hand I do not have that measurement, can get it though) or you will chew up the new bearing and seal real fast.Always add some gear oil to the new bearing after install before sliding the axle in.

Make sure the trans or t-case is in "N" before pulling apart, this helps with getting the center pin out.If you screw up that 8mm bolt your screwed, make sure the bolt threads in both the carrier and bolt are clean and use a little locktite when you re-install it,you technically should replace that bolt every time you remove it but I never have and never had a issue yet.
