I am getting a ticking sound when driving and I am almost certain it is coming from y T case...I got it to go away a few times by shifting into 4LO driving it a few feet then taking it back out...it won't go away now....any ideas? Bearing? Loose chain? linkage adjustment? Rebuild?

So if it is the SYE install, what could have been done wrong? Chain...I hope it is an easy fix....

I would check the linkage first. 231s take a lot of abuse!! I guess the chain could get loose if you drove it in 4 on the pavement alot....

Make sure it's not leaking either. Maybe get under there and see what is making the noise. Does the ebrake work? I have a bused ebrake cable in one of my XJs and so the ebrake assembly thingy hangs low and the DS can hit it and it makes annoying noise. I don't even need an ebrake! oh well.

I also had a ticking sound in a 231 a long long time ago, adjusted the linkage, and it went away, then I changed the motor mounts and tranny mount, and re-adjusted the linkage because it was the motor/tranny being out of place that caused the original misalignment of the linkage.
