So i first thought i had a clogged Cat, well i had it looked at and the dealer said he doesnt think its a clogged cat and that my KJ just shifts into Overdrive ALL THE TIME! Its especially bad on the highway, it rests at 1500 rpms going 60 uphills and i have to almost floor it to get it to come out of Overdrive and get going!?! What could cause this? It feels so laggy and slow, ive driven other KJs and they felt peppy and responsive? Agreed I have a ARB bumper, OME Full Lift, 245's, Roof rack, Front and rear ARB Air lockers, but it still shouldnt feel like my old ranger that had 195,000 miles!?

When was the last time you changed the plugs?

How about the tranny fluid?? No matter what anyone tells you, you need to change the tranny fluid regularly, DON'T do a flush, just drop the pan and replace what falls out. You'll be happy you did and so will your tranny....as long as you use the right fluid!

I had similar issues - mostly on the highway when needing to go up hills/mountains. I'd almost need to floor it and it felt like it would just drop to 2nd before even coming out of OD. At first I would anticipate the gear I'd need, take my foot off the gas and turn the O/D Off. Later I had to bring the Jeep to the dealer to get some work done and had them do a transmission flash. Since then it's worked much better.

A transmission flash? Like a ECU flash? Hmm i might see if my local dealer could give this a shot for me cause u described the exact issues im having.

If your cat is ever plugged then your exhaust manifolds will go cherry red if you rev it at stand still.. And then is sounds like a bad exhaust leak or hissing sound. Is it burning rich? How is the air box and filter?

Well I dropped the pan and changed out my tranny fluid with new ATF+4 as recommended and added a new filter. I also had the dealer run a quick re-learn and im still having some issues, it shifts alot smoother but still seems like it stuck in overdrive and doesnt want to accelerate?

Is a pinion reset needed? Need someone who knows to chime in. :?

Need to know the RPM number to set it to for 245s – one post on here tells of the dealer doing it incorrectly. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=50064

Also read Speedometer calibration (pinion reset) and shifting points

I had somewhat of a similar issue on my old 05 Renegade. When going up hills the thing seemed to bog down in OD and I swear there was an ever so slight shudder present. So I'd keep pushing on the gas and finally it would downshift, but it was definitely not smooth.

Took it to the dealer and they said they "could not replicate" the problem and that all was good.

I did some digging under the hood, looking for a possible vacuum leak as that seemed a potential cause. I found a vacuum leak, corrected it, and the jeep ran much better since. Turns out that when the put the jeep together at the factory, they installed a vacuum hose incorrectly (the lip of the hose rolled over on itself). I just pulled the hose off, reconnected it, and put on a zip strip on it for good measure.

The location of the leak was on a component (part of the emissions system) that sits, if you are standing at the front of the jeep looking at the engine compartment, to the right and towards the front of the engine. It's a round plastic component, ~2" diam.) that has two hard plastic vacuum lines leading to it (assume there is some sort of diaphragm in the plastic thing). Between the two plastic lines and the component are two rubber "unions" that bridge the two. It was one of these rubber unions that was folded on top of itself.

Not sure if you're going to the same problem, but if so I hope this helps...
