Can anybody tell me why this tomken tranny skid wouldn't fit a 07 gasser? Basically I am looking for a tranny better skid the mopar one, but skid row is a little overkill for my utility vehicle use.

Different trans for the mid year '03-'07 KJ,they have the 42RLE.The '02's and early '03's have the 45RFE which is the same case as the CRD's 545RFE.

Didn't Think there was a difference between the 45RFE and 42RLE tranny's as far as skid mounting though... Mounting points on the crossmembers are in the same location.

The skid still fits, but there are these little tack mounts that slide into the cross member but its not on a 02-04.

I think the early models and the later CRDs shared those little tab slots (and not the gassers in the middle for some strange reason). On the back side, the hole pattern (where the stock nutzerts go) is different as well, though. I just went though this saga with Skid row as none of the rear mount holes lined up with my crossmember even though the skid is supposed to be universal. The company was legitimately unaware of the change and was nice enough to give a full refund even though I scraped it up a little trying to squeeze it in there to fit.

I picked up a secondhand mopar skid from another LOST member last week and it has the tabs that slide into the engine crossmember AND the rear holes lined up perfectly with the stock location, so it was either made for the early models or for the CRD, as I think the difference in the rear crossmember bolt pattern goes along with/if you have an auto tranny model (RFE or RLE- based) and not just the year.

Regardless, unless they're talking about "with no modifications" it would probably work on any model year, just with greater or lesser amounts of drilling. I wasn't personally going to drill completely new mounting holes for a skid that is SUPPOSED to fit. I'll bet Tomken would explain if ya called them

yeah worth a call to Tomken.

So you're saying the skidrows won't fit, unless modified when it comes to 05-07??

It fit my 05 CRD dimensionally, but the rear bolt hole locations didn't line up with the factory mounting locations on the transmission crossmember (not even close). I didn't want to hack into either it or the crossmember for the price it costs. It looks like (to me) it's based on the crossmember used on the auto-RLE / manual transmissions (of which the CRD uses neither). SR was nice about it and discussed making a prototype for the CRD but I'm guessing the demand for it (and the fact that the existing model can be MADE to fit) deters them from the investment of a new product.

I wonder how these compare to the Skid Row jobbers?
