Post subject:  transfer case position switch questions? 02 Renegade
02 renegade produced in June of 02. 5 speed manual.
I know where it is. Can I wrench it out with out having to drop the case and transmission?
I realize there is a clearance issue but has anyone done it. What size socket or wrench is needed? Can I just unplug it for the time being without any issues until I get a replacement? I have searched and Rock Auto has one for 71.00 with a 2 prong connector and Napa lists one with a 3 prong connector for 48.00. I wonder which is right? I would like to have the correct part in hand before i put the thing back on jackstands.

I removed mine from the top.
Had to remove the center console and transfer case shifter.
I used a large adjustable wrench. Bashed knuckles and mouth washing with soap, and wala it was out. Then in.
Don't know which parts is right. I wasn't going to pay 60 for it. Put it back. And left it unplugged.

oh, mine was 2 wire also.
I later reattached it so the connector wouldn't get ruined. Got a CEL for a little while but it cleared finally.
Don't believe that the sensor is worth the money at this time. It only operates some dash lights. Thats it.

I took it out today and lubricated it and worked it for 10 minutes. It didn't help.
I used a small pipe wrench. Busted my knuckle when it broke loose. I did it from the bottom. It is the 2 wire version.
