Post subject:  pinion reset? does it work

so i lifted my libby and put on 245/75r16s went to jeep to get a pinion reset. went from 2.5 off at 60 to almost 6 off at 60---not cool. went back and they said they messed it up and would fixed it. went from 6 off at 60 to 7.5 off at 60. way not cool. since i have a 2006 what wheel does the speedo run off of. and secondly has this happened to anyone and if so what is the solution. oh and can i have them reset by metric wheel size and not rpm's and if so is this better, cause the revs per mile are bs. any help would be of great help. this is my wifes car and she drives around all day with my two year old daughter in the back so the safest i can make it the better.
thanks in advance

when I went from stock to 245/75/16 the speedo went from 4% off to dead on.
and 2 dealerships couldn't figure out how to correct a non-standard tire size.

speedo drives off the rear diff.

Since Jeep couldn't get the speedometer correct with stock tires - I wouldn't count on any correction factors getting there either -
the key to the pinion reset is how well does it drive? - does the tranny shift at the right times?

With 245/75R16 the difference is probably unnoticable compare with the stock one.
you shouldn't have to reset the pinion for that ,but from what i understand
they messed it up big time. you need to have them reset you Jeep to factory standard

I went from 235/70R16(29") to 31"x10.5R15 =265/75R15 ( 31")
my speedo was off by 7% , witch can be manage by paying attention at your speed on highways.
But the issue was the tranny that didn't shift at the right time(shifting point)
And this transmit on loss of power ,specially on acceleration and further damages to the tranny ,because working harder.
I live in Canada ,it wasn't easy to find a dealer(asked 5 dealers) that could/would reprogram the TCM of my
Liberty, they are quite picky about going off the standards, but I found one , cost $40.00
it help the get your exact speed, also the exact milleage done over time by your Jeep.
By having bigger tires, the speed indicated on your speedo is lower than reality, same with the mileage you're
doing.

Hope ,my personal experience helped.

what setting are they changing??? and what are they changing it to??

For 31" tyre setting should be 677 revs per mile.(even on KPH speedos) This setting needs to be done in two places on later model KJ's. In the ECU and in the ABS module. If it is only done in the one place, its plays up. Some later models do not have the revs per mile option and you can only set a tyre size, thats less acurate, as we all know you can have the same "tyre size" , yet in different tread patterns the tyre will phyically be differnt size.

Been running on 31/10.5/15's for 2 odd years now with this setting and the speedo is bang on. Gear changes where corrected, that was the reason I did it, I personally dont care what the speedo says, I just wanted the Auto to operate better, and It certainly did on mine, and many others that I know, some guys have reported no difference on theirs, each to their own..
