| Post subject: | yet another lift question |
Ok so I want to lift and well I thought of it as an idea since b4 I picked up my Jeep. I want something moderate that will do light off road better than stock and not be too high or rough since I drive it everyday, its my only vehicle and I just got new tires before winter and I'm hoping they will look ok after the lift too. I have become very settled on saving up for OME springs, shocks and struts. I have some cash now I can put aside for it too. I have Boiler's top plates thanks to lost santa. so what else should I be getting? |

OME springs if you hurry Jegs still had some shocks Rancho RSX 17004 rear, fronts RSX 17505s. Teraflex bumpstops for the front Most everyone thats lifted has theirs for a DD, so you're in good company If you don't want much lift and a soft ride OME 926s for the front just a little heavier than stock rears I would still do 948s I ran mine for a while with 245-70s after I lifted they work |

cool thanks I was looking at the springs and shocks/struts as a package from DPG off-road for like $745 plus shipping. How much are the Rancho's? is that going to save me any cash? any difference preformance wise? I have heard the Rancho's are firmer. I have a CRD and may want an ARB bumper in the future but an not sure yet. I like the tires I have now I think they look pretty tough on it as is and hope they won't look tiny once lifted. In boiler's pic he had a tire that was more for highway use and it didn't looks as good after the lift. Still I think his lift looked very good. |

well I may not get the arb but since I am thinking I'd like to maybe have one I should get springs to handle it so that if I do its not a problem and nothing will neeed redone. I was told he could customize the package with whatever springs would work best for my KJ. still whats the difference detween Rancho and OME shocks/struts? Dirk at DPG Off-road was telling me they were going to not ride as smooth and were not as good as OME. Also the OME would make my Jeep have a more comfortable ride than stock as well as the lift and more wheel travel for off road. not sure how true that is. THen after I get all the stuff I need to have it installed or find someone with the knowllege to help me install it. I don't know anyone local to take my under their wing. |

OME struts work better on CRD's - the extra weight changes the response Gassers seem to work well with the Ranchos (I've got OME790's & NS131's - they work great) |

OME states you do not need bumpstops in the front if only using springs, no clevis, top plate etc. Although depending on tires/ wheel offset you may or it would be cheap insurance and yes OME shocks seem to work better with CRDs, not sure why since I think they tend to be softer |

Very simple, when you have the spring out drill a hole in the center of the spring pad, drill hole through the pucks, then bolt them on. Yes this is for the rear , fronts Teraflex makes extended ones that work great and just pop into where the original ones are maybe this will help

I see looks simple and cheap. where would I find the TerraFlex for the fronts? also I am not sure how I will have my lift installed, at a shop of maybe a lift party if I can get in on one. Do you think a shop would be ok with using hockey pucks? |

You only need rear bumpstops if you fit the OME 132L (L for 'long' version) rear shock or if you fit bigger tires/ofset rims. The regular OME N132 rear shock is almost the same size as the stock shock. I run Rancho 17004 rear shocks on my CRD and love them. Terraflex front bumpstops can be found at Trailquest.com or Jeepinbyal.com. |

See if you can't get a lift party together over there, should be someone around that has done one to help. I have had people drive 4 to 5 hours to come here to my place for a lift before, cheaper than paying a shop, plus teaches others how to do it. I think one time we have 12 or 14 people at a lift party maybe more! |

Cool thanks the plan is to keep the stock wheels. I got new tires before winter, they are 245/70R16 all-terian and I like them so I hoped to keep them. Nothing is set in stone I would just hate to buy tires when the ones I have got great tread. I have not set down exact shock model yet. do I need the long version? |

Hmm...tough question. You don't 'need' the longer version, but if you wheel your KJ you get much better articulation of the rear axle with the longer shocks. |

I'll sort of disagree with Tony just to make his day. Stock length shocks will top out when off road or even on some speed bumps, curbs etc . Example I blew one rear Rancho while off road, ( my own fault, don't ask how |

Nice this discussion is good I like getting different opinons. So to me it sounds like I need to ask for the long shocks since either way having them is not going to be a bad thing. Tom if I could come to your place to to it I just might. I really don't know many other Jeep people here that would be willing to help and well there aren't members on here I'm close with just yet. If I came to your place it would be an overnight trip being a about a 7 hour drive. |
