Just wondering if you can tell me anything about the preload adjustment. I understand that I am going to need a tool which slips down the axle shaft in order to access the preload nut? Pictures would be awesome :)

I just spoke to ARB tech and they told me that i'm gonna want to puck up a spare carrier bearing for the side which is opposite the air, and I am going to want to find out about the preload nut as the Chrysler 8.25 doesn't use shims like a "normal" diff.

I'm looking at $805.99 locally... taking advantage of the free compressor if I buy before April 30th.

Does anyone actually use the larger compressor? Is it useful to have the ability to inflate tires? I don't see myself airing down to necessitate a larger compressor. If I were buying two lockers at once I would be automatically getting the larger compressor and the ARB tire inflator kit..

To begin with I am just going to do the rear and keep the stock gear ratios.

When I get the money I would like to do the front and change to 4.10's front and rear and get some bigger tires.

So for now all I need is the Differential, Compressor, wiring kit, switches, a spare carrier bearing (for the side opposite the air), and 2.48quarts of gear juice?

THANKS for any suggestions/help. I am confident I have the tools to do this, and I have build spindles which I had to account for preload... and I know how to check backlash... it will just be a first for me working on a rear end :)

P.s. I was quoted $400 from my local shop to have them do the install. That is nearly half of the front locker!!!!!

$400 for a ARB install is a good deal since you need some special tools and modify the diff housing(drill and tap a hole for the airline).The ARB is the easiest locker install to screw up.I'd highly recommend pro install from a installer that has done many ARB installs to lesson the chance of it getting screwed up.

I agree Mark i know you like to do things your self but when it comes to a diff i would recomend for a pro to install it. Talk to Bobby or Nick. They have both done the work and would probably be more than happy to let you do a majority of the work but also be there to assist in the more difficult stuff. I know Bobby has the tools...

I'll have to hit up bobby then... he definitely seems to know his stuff on the BBM group.

It just sucks as I love doing work on my own vehicle.

I have the dial indicators (.001 and .0001)
I have the mag base.
I have the depth mic, a granite block, stones, impacts, etc...

I am just a little unsure of what tool I need to adjust the preload on the differential :)

I will have to throw up some pictures of one of the spindles we build... they are insane. $16,000 bearing set, we have to grind our own preload rings to get the right preload on the angular contact bearings... and they have to be good for over 3,000 RPM interrupted cuts everyday. If it wasn't money out of my own pocket (if something were to go wrong) I would certainly be doing the install myself :)

Nows the time to make a serious "Do I need gears" thought process. Youre going to be in there to install the locker. Its the perfect time to think about a gear swap. Dont try to install that ARB unless youve done them before. Ive watched the install of ARBs into Six of my rigs and I wouldnt do it myself.

Ditto on gears. While everything is apart spend the little extra for the 4.10's
