2002 Liberty with the ARB bull bar. I'm trying to find the best winch that will fit in there. And what's the best size winch to get for the Liberty?

Warn M 8000 is the most common and cheapest.
I think there is only 2 or 3 Warn model that fits on the bumper.
You need at least a 8000 Lbs winch
that is more or less 1 1/2 time the weight of your truck.

So this will fit in the bumper with nothing else needed for purchase?

Here is the list of winches that will fit:

1. Warn M8000 (both the 80' and 100' cable models)
2. Warn XD9000
3. Warn M6000
4. 9.5 XP

I'm looking at the M8000. Do I need the 12v or 24v?

How many batteries you running?

You need the 12v version.Winch Depot almost always has the best price for the M8000,the better M8000 is the cheaper one.

I have a diesel Toyota Land Cruiser with a 24V system. It has a 24V M10000 Warn. They rock because they draw half the amps under load as a 12V winch

You need a 12V winch. Unless youve figured out a way to convert your system to 24V..... :SOMBRERO:

I had a chicago 8000lb winch in mine. Used it for 5 years or more. From pulling vehicles out 0f mud or up on trailers. to pulling trees out of the ground. Worked it hard over those years. Was useing it yesterday to pull a big tree trunk onto a burn pile and it quit. I pulled the arb bumper off the jeep and took the winch out. When i tore into the winch the magnets had come unglued from the housing and was in chunks. For the money I had in the winch it served its purpose better than I thought it would. I would only buy another one if money was a issue. When I bought mine, I paid a extra 50 bucks for a (replace on the spot) warranty that was good for 2 years. But as of yesterday ,the good ole, cheap, harbor freight ,chicago winch is history.

Don't over look some of the other brands of winches for less money.
Yeah, warn is good and all, but remember they fail as well!
Just look at a certain magazine test where a Warn crapped out!
I've run Chinese made winches for quite some time and have never had any proems with them! In fact allot of the guys we wheel with use Chinese made winches and have never had problems with them!
Also, almost all winches have a standardized mounting platform to fit any and all applications out there.
Look closely, even Warn has many products manufactured in China!

As far as what weight winch capacity?
The more the better. Less strain on the winch and winches in faster.
At least 8000 lbs.
I went with a 9500 lbs. unit.
It works like a charm!

One is the base 12volt model with 80' of cable and a hawse fairlead, the 2nd is the better 12 volt version with 100' of cable and roller fairlead. The 3rd is the 24 volt version.

Unlike what others say I'd highly recommend a good name brand like WARN,at least you can get parts for them and WARN takes care of there customers even if out of warranty.

Some people have to learn the hard way. Cheap is always cool until it breaks down or parts are needed. :banghead: GO WARN!
