I actually would like to know how that sway bar even works. I just don't get the physics behind it.

1996xj took mine off and kept it, so I'm not lifted and don't have one. I was indifferent at the time, and I basically let him take it off so people would stop bugging me about it.

Take a stock or lifted kj (not sure what all neatus has done to the rear on his)

put a good floor jack centered under the rear diff with the tires about 12 inches off the ground and jackstands under the chassis and let the axle down to just a hair lower than normal ride height

with the sway bar on, put a 2nd jack under one side of the axle or the other with a yard stick leaned against the vehicle on the other side and start jacking up the axle on one side and watch the other tires movement, before it's fully stuffed go to the other side and push down on the tire lightly

the start over with the swaybar disconnected and out of the way of the control arms

now my science may be off a bit, because i didn't exactly study it when i tried to shortcut and change my rear coils without removing the sway bar.. which without ratchet straps is pretty difficult with the new coils.. i just kind of compressed the old ones with my hands to remove lol..

but there seems to be a point of stasis for the sway bar where it's not pushing or pulling on either side but when you put the axle in certain positions it starts trying to resist LCA movement on one side or the other

Troy said in one of the posts that it was more of an anti-wheel lift device rather than a sway bar, since it isn't attached to the body what so ever

as for it's effectiveness?

ehhh..

and if i recall correctly, the center of the bar goes through a bracket ontop of the rear end which basically acts as the pivot of a rocker so as one tire goes up, it tries to pull the other side down "keeping the tire in contact with the road" but only within a certain range of it's motion as it was designed around a stock suspension and with a lift.. oh.. someone isn't going to like this :P depending on it's effective range of motion, without bumpstops could theoretically prevent the other side from drooping equally in order to keep the tire in contact with the road and causing wheel hop during a high speed slide, which is actually part of the recipe for some rollover incidents

feel free to tear all of what i just stated apart, like i said, my science could be off, and most of it other than the part about putting the rear end on the jack etc, i came up with using the little jeep on my desk :o

It is very similar to the stock setup, everything is just bigger and better:)

well unless you're trying to limit droop :P

it's a safe bet that the anti-whatever bar is quite out of its specified range at that amount of lift and travel range

my observation when i messed around with it was that it had a very limited range of difference between the two sides that it was able to function at before it started preventing the other side from moving

but.. i kinda figure that wasn't a question of yours :P more so a "How did the thing do whatever it was designed to do"

so..

ready to sell your sfa yet? $$$

lol ill even trade ya mine minus a bumper so you can start all over, it's got a rear sway bar you can play around with and tinker lol

Stock here...sway bar connected. Don't have plans to remove it, but I'm not against it by any means.

Dude, there is no way I am selling it. I may sell the rear sway bar off it though. It is just too cool. I could have a Rubicon with 30k thrown at it and this thing would still be way more unique. I really like it a lot and just want to do more to it.

Well since you sold it once and then got it back I'm inclined to think you'll not sell it again.
