Has anyone used the H.I.D headlight kit from these guys and if so was it a fairly easy install ?, and if not, is there one that is better?

I know a little bit about HID lighting, the components, install, pros/cons, etc. but im unsure on the heat they produce. I know they produce better light with less power, but do they run hotter as a trade off?? Sorry to somewhat hijack your thread with another ???, but it seemed like a useful one.

Just remember they are illegal and many of those kits have major issues and cause major issues to your vehicle systems.

I love the way HIDs look. However the more i think about it, its not worth the extra attention it attracts. I started realizing i took extra notice in every vehicle that i passed this morning with the HID "retro" kit. If i noticed it half asleep at 520 this morning, Im sure the police notice all the time. Having them is just one extra reason to get pulled over. IMHO. I would however, consider HIDs for aux lighting. maybe a nice yellow to cut through the thick fog. Just my :2cents:

Now I know they are illegal in pretty much every state. But I'm not sure about the law enforcement in other states.. Here in NYC, they can care less. I haven't been pulled over for my lights.. I've been behind cops driving or at red lights, and they haven't stopped me.. when I was stopped for other reasons (I'm not perfect) they never mentioned it.. Also as a rough estimate, about 30% of the cars on the road have the HID's, some done nicely, others not so much.. All halogen headlights are terrible for HID's.. some worse than others. The KJ isn't that bad. On a '97 Dodge van, its a joke, it blinds everyone, even planes overhead. Had to realigned the headlights pretty much facing the ground for it to be even remotely acceptable.
-But on that note, to each his own, I enjoy my HID's, I choose to use them, sorry.

Yeah you types blind the hell out of me all the time, since Iraq that type of light kinda triggers the bad side in me(and bad memories). It bothers me and I'm much higher up then most, but I get even since I'll let those dropped honda's pass me and then get to sit behind them at a red light with my 700,000 candle power KC HID long range lights pointed right in the rear view mirror, and I'll offset myself just a bit so one points also in the drivers side mirror and the lights take forever to change here in CO at night.

Infernicus, Dont be sorry. It doesnt bother me at all. You are right tho, about the KJ not being that bad with HIDs. I pass one on the way to work every now and then, Theyre running, I would guess around 10000k-12000k, as they are very purple, and they look really good. Not really overwhelming at all as far as scattered light. I love the look, and the light for that matter. I just don't think theyre right for me. Just adding input to help someone make an informed decision. Its good to know what youre getting before you buy.

Infernicus, Im very envious of your 6speed.

The purple HID's are actually less intrusive then standard halogen because of light output, the purple does nothing for lighting, lol.

( not to thread jack, but if the KJ was an auto, I prob wouldn't like it as much, I had a loaner and it was boring *womp* .. I actually went out today for some amazing trails (for NY standards) and it was fun for sure )

Im pretty sure H.I.D. 's themselves aren't illegal, just the drop in kits that don't use a new reflector housing, something about it not setting the right angles on the lights, and blinding oncoming drivers... just look at any ricer-mobile...

That is correct, HIDs aren't illegal, most newer cars have at least an option for them from the factory. I believe all DOT approved HID headlights have leveling motors in them to adjust the angle of the reflector so not to blind oncoming traffic. those kits are big money. But the drop in bulb and ballast are illegal. (at least every state I've been)

well thanks for the help, I was just toying with the idea, here in sc they could care less about vehicle modifications as long as you don't act like a jackass when you get pulled. but I suppose since all my lights still work well, the money will go to other mods.
