I am looking to see where people have mounted their hi lift jacks on their KJ. I bought a set of these mounting plates http://www.tellico4x4.com/product_info.php/cPath/51_3934_1784_2180/products_id/9859 I was thinking about on the hood close to the windshield or I have no other ideas really that would make it accessible for use. I did a search for hi lift mount, and one on just hi lift but did not find what I was looking for. |

Unless you have a ton of crap under your back seats, just put it there. Slides right under and is a perfect fit. Don't have to worry about it rusting or malfunctioning due to weather, or having someone steal it. Easiest place for it. |

I have the same brackets and mounted them on the factory "roof rack" havent had any problems yet. As for the weather, a good shot of WD-40 once in a while does the trick.  You do ge some rattling noise, but took care of that with a bungie cord wraped at the end. |

Did you drill through the bar and did you need new bolts to install it on there? And do you have a close up of it, how you did it Frank? NM, went and bought some U Bolts and lock nuts and got it on there. Thanks for the idea though Frank |

I like how you installed that Hi-Lift. I think I'm going to put mine on the side of my Basket if I ever get off my Arse and put that back on. Here's another option tho by SmittyBilt the I-Rack http://www.smittybilt.com/product/index/79.htm I think it would look sweet on a Libby might get in the way of the Glass tho.

I like this idea used on an FJ Cruiser however the added weight of the Hi-Lift may be too much for a Libby's stock tire carrier.  http://www.purefjcruiser.com/catalog/exteriortrim/fj-cruiser-spare-tire-hi-lift-jack-mount.php I've seen a few TJ's with the Hi-Lift mounted on the windshield cowl but not yet on a Libby. |

the adapter cost me $200 to have a fab shop weld it up, as I don't have the skills, equipment, etc. |

No issues with the extra weight, and I've had it on the tailgate for the last 3 years or so. Tailgate still opens fully, no interferance, and the tailgate handle is still accessable to open. The original inspiration came from Inc's old set up. I also found it much easier to take the jack off and on at this location instead of up on the roof rails. As for how it was done. The spare tire carrier is turned upside down. I have a spare tire spacer that allows the tailgate glass to open with out making contact with the larger tire (the spacer pushes the spare away from the tailgate a few extra inches, and this provides the space needed for the jack). The jack mount is a piece of 1.5" square metal tubing about 18" long mounted to the tire carrier via some 3/16" thick metal brackets. 2 Carriage bolts with BF'n wing nuts, and an additional hole for the pad lock to fit through to secure the jack to the carrier so that the hooligan kids in my neighbourhood that take joy in egging the cars on my street from time to time don't steal it, or worse put it through my windshield. The set up has taken tons of abuse and hasn't failed. If anyone is interested in a full parts/instruction set for making the carrier let me know and I'll write one up.
