Ok, I've replaced all the power steering lines coming in and out of the reservoir and rack, however I've just discovered that not only did I have line leaks, but the steering shaft input seal on the rack is pouring oil out of it when the Jeep is running. Everything else is now fine. Can the steering shaft be removed/separated in order to remove the lower input shaft from the rack? Does it come apart at the swivel bushing if you take that mount apart? Please help as this thing is currently torn apart in my driveway! Thanks in advance! |

I'm being told by a parts store that they can't get it and the dealer tells me I need to buy a whole new steering rack (BS I say!) Anyone know where I can get my hands on this seal? |

Just posting here after searching for power steering issues on my KJ. I started it up in the cold last week, start to drive and the power steering died with a big puddle of fluid on the ground. My mechanic is telling me the rack seal blew out, and I will be replacing the rack with a remanufactured unit. How common is this failure? Doesn't look like it is that common judging from the lack of threads here, but I have never had to replace a steering rack in any vehicle EVER. Sucks that a cheap seal necessitates the replacement of the whole $500 rack. |

I replace on average 1-2 racks a week at work due to input/output seal leaks.Chrysler minivans are the main ones I do since the restricted return line likes to blow the rack seals. |
