I'm in MOAB hanging with the homies and we decided to do Potash to Shaffer Trail. I was rallying through the twisties in Fulltime and when we hit Shaffer, I put 'er in 4LO. About 1/4 of the way up I rolled down the windows and heard a fairly loud rhythmic squeak (see subject line). Once we got to the top, I put it into Fulltime and the noise went away. It seemed to be coming from the front end but it's hard to say. There's no noise in 2WD, I have not tried Partime. The noise was louder than the stereo at volume 16. Any ideas?

I should add the noise was only there when the vehicle was in motion.

Stock stereo volume 16 or ultra high power JL Audio volume 16?

I'd be checking the front driveshaft,CV joints, and front hub bearings.

I can buy that but why only in 4 Lo?

I'm more concerned that it's the t-case since it's only 4 LO love.

Found a new front driveshaft and it will be in MOAB Sat 1:30 PM. I'll remove the shaft (gigity) in the AM, have a look and see if the noise persists when in 4 LO.

Thanks for the advice.

Upon initial inspection, the boot which usually corrodes away (on driveshaft) seems perfect and there's no noise driving in straight lines on the street in 4 LO. I am sure something will crop up again on the trails.

Maybe you had a rock or something jammed somewhere it was not supposed be.

I find that when I run in very fine sand or dust for a few miles, I get this sqeak noise until I flush it out. If it were all the time, I might suspect the brake pad clip, warning of worn pads.

The noise came back on sunday about 3/4 of the way through elephant hill. On the same trail, kskj developed the same noise as well so I am going with hub bearing or simply sand.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to replace some hub bearings that have seen nearly 100K miles especially if you have an instict that they MIGHT be going!

Hub bearings as in wheel bearings?

I'm at 130K miles on my 2006... both front bearings replaced at around 110-120K... that symptom was ungodly low pitch noises at highway speeds....

When I wheel it is at a former silica sand quarry. I am familiar with the squeek... but mine is more subtle...

My squeak went away after the long drive home. Must of been sand.
