After doing a front bumper trim the other day...... ![]() I decided to salvage a piece of aluminum diamond plate, and make my own front skid plate for my '05 Renegade. Supported with two 12" heavy duty "L" brackets, and bolted to the front cross member using 2 of the threaded inserts located on the bottom.... Had to cut, bend, and re-drill a couple holes on the bracket, then lined up my pre-bend piece of diamond plate, marked out for the holes, the drill, and bolt it all together. The hard part was getting my arms and hands between the skid and frame work to get the mounting bolts lined up and started, but once I did, I was able to ratchet them in good and tight. I wanted to take a bunch of photos of each step of this project, but I was kinda racing to beat the rain....(which I did just in the nick of time)..... but I did get to take a couple of it all together..... Pre-painting.... ![]() ![]() Post painting..... ![]() ![]() Now if I can find another scrap big enough I'd like to engineer one to cover and protect my tranny pan..... |

Very common sight here in the Mid-Atlantic and Northesat shore, and those rod holders are tame compared to some rigs you'll see driving around here. 6 to 8 tubes and a rack to hold large coolers on the front bumper..... |

Neatus wrote: Is the rear part of that skid attatched to anything? Not yet, I ran out of metal, and it started raining on me so it's just supported at the front..... temporarily that is until I pick up a couple pieces of flat stock to connect and support the back. |

I heard they've been killing the striped oil-trout out that way. You can get your limit simply walking the beach. |

No offense, but that things is going to get ripped off your truck the minute you hit anything important enough to need a skid plate for in the first place. |

i think it look great have to put a coat of paint on mine but are we sure that the L brackets will hold up ??? they might push back and cause you trouble I dont know...just a thought but it does look good under there and i like the upbend on the front to prevent it from acting like a sand, snow, etc shovel
