I have an 05' liberty sport, would like to lift it, but the offroad store by me said i cant use my factor rims! I have 5.750 backing space and they said 5.5 is the limit with a lift! I have p225/70/16 tires, Iwant to lift it now but dont want to change tires and rims, has anyone run into this problem? CAN I USE THE FACTOR RIM WITH THAT DEEP OF A SPACING? |

What shop did you go to? I grew up in akron, and I have buddies that work in some 4x shops. I don't know who you talked to, i'm running around now with a rocky road lift, rusty's shocks, 245/75R/16's on a factory rim. I have slight rubbing now, but that's just because i'm running an oversize donut, and i haven't trimmed enough of the wheel well lining. Whomever you talked to doesn't know what he's talking about. |

i was told that the factory "mechanica" wheels are 5.5", and the recommended backspacing after a lift would be 4.75" is this accurate? |

Aren't all stock Jeep Liberty wheels' back spacing 5.5"? |

Stocks are 5.5". You can measure it yourself. I don't know about that shop you are using. I had a 2.5" Daystar and now a Frankenlift and have had both stock and now 4" BS with no problems. There's been a lot of threads about this already. Suggest you research them. Meanwhile find another shop. |

maybe somebody should post stock wheel specs in the new FAQ section to cut down on these back spacing questions...maybe also how to read tires size (i could post on the reading of tire sizes and ratings-worked at a tire place for a year) that would cut down on lots of these posts which I assume would free up server space. |

my stock steel '04 wheels have 5.25" backspace. I would like to get some 16x7 with 4.5" bs. Trying to find 16x7 wheels in alloy is a pain. Most only make 16x8's that don't have the right bs anyway. The 16x7's I have found are for fwd (5.5"-5.75"bs). I just wish I could find some nice 16x7 alloys with a 4.5" bs that cost less than $150 each. |

Well just finished a 3/8 clevis lift on top of my Rusty's spring lift. The 05 Renegade sits pretty good now. However, I also put on a pair of 1.25" wheel spacers up front to 1. give it a wider footprint and 2. give it a more agressive look. Well, the results were rubbing on level ground (turning in a parkinglot) with 245/75 R16 BFT AT's. With the stock 5.5" backspacing and the 1/25" spacers that should have given me 4.25" BS. I take the KJ in for an alignment this morning but I don't think that will make a difference. Wanted to give the spacers a try before commiting to a custom backspaced wheel. I don't know if the different front end of the Renegade vs the standard Liberty makes a difference on front bumper clearance but that is where the rubbing problem was. Not sure how much BS would work with those tires. Maybe 5"? Took the spacers off... Anyway, just my 2 cents. |

The spacers shouldn't make a difference... The front end of a renegade makes no difference wether or not the tires rub since they use the same bumpers and same size wheels as a sport or limited... if the rubbing is on the back of the bumper or front of the wheel well linings then back spacing wont make a difference in rubbing. a 245 tire shouldn't rub too much if at all with wheel spacers...My 255's rub slightly with no spacers (enough to keep that part of the wheel lining clean if I pull a u-turn). |

Decrease in BS will affect rubbing. The liner has an indent which looks like it is there for the stock BS wheel. When you move the tire out and it is turned it doesn't "fit" into the intent and rubs on the outside (front flare). If you are running 255/70's they have a smaller diameter than the 245/75's. 255 (BFG) 30.2 vs 245 (BFG) 30.6 inch diameter. I have been thinking of moving to the 255 anyway. |

I meant it won't make a difference in alignment, not rubbing sorry sorry for the confusion... The 255's will rub more then the 245's because the 255's are 10 milimeters wider. I am not real sure how accurate those tire size calculators are for converting metric to SAE tire sizes... My 255/70's measure to 30.5 inches on the vehicle with 32 psi...But then again I geuss every tire is different size wise. Take a 31" tire and measure it-quite often its actually a 30.5... |

Fender rubbing in the front is easy too fix without cutting yours out like mine. A little heat gun and some coaxing will fix that. The pinch weld is an easy fix too. AZ OD- if you are around Tucson, I'll help out with any projects. I think we are going to have a project day around here soon- I'm putting in a powertrax, Olhockey wants to put on a rock ring, and I know Signcutter is looking at doing some fenderwell/bumper trimming. |
