I have an 05 v6 sport, auto, 60 000 miles, stock tires and no lift. For the last couple of weeks I have been getting a clicking noise when I am making slow speed sharp turns. It does it in 2wd and 4wd. I had it in and they say everything was tight but my passenger side tie rod, which was replaced, and it does not seem to be a cv(the tie rod was not the source of the noise). They suspect it is the steering shaft, is this a problem with the kj? It seems like an unusual thing to go with only 60k on it and mostly street use. |

I assume by steering shaft you are refering to the input shaft of the rack and pinion. (connects steering wheel to the rack). Does it click as your turning the wheel and stop clicking if you are coasting through a turn with the wheel turned but stationary?? If it continues clicking with the wheel turned and wheel stationary, it is probably not steering shaft since the steering input shaft only turns with the steering wheel. I hope that makes sense. I would just hate to see you pull the input shaft if thats not the issue. |

That is what I initially suspected but they don't think it is. If it was a cv wouldn't is get worse as the speed increased or if it was in 4 wd. |

It only seems to click as the wheel is being turned, if the wheel is held still it won't click anymore. |

Most of the time, as you speed up, the clicking of a CV will become silent. Probably still causing just as much damage to itself, just drowned out or moving too fast to catch and click. nsliberty wrote: It only seems to click as the wheel is being turned, if the wheel is held still it won't click anymore. I hate to say it, but according to what youve told, it sounds accurate to suspect the steering. Its hard to say whether its the input shaft, rack, or maybe something else. |

I was afraid it might be true. It's not a cheap or easy job. |

I think I finally narrowed down what my noise is. I think it is the power steering isolator bushing problem. I'm going to take a closer look at it today , but if that is the problem is it something that should be fixed right away or can I let it go for a while. |
