Post subject:  Lift Kit Advice...So Confused

I was just getting ready to order the Skyjacker lift kit for my Jeep. However, now I just heard about the possibility of a 4" lift, from Superlift I believe. I went on to their website. However there is no way to e-mail about potential kits. Are they coming out with this? If so, is there a date? Should I wait or should I just put in for the 2.5".

Why the SJ lift?

I'm going with the Skyjacker for a few reasons. First, I don't want a spacer lift. I still want the articulation which I've heard is reduced with spacers. Also, the pricing reasonable compared to others (Frankenlift seems pricey). Finally, I've heard good thinks about Skyjackers. However, now I'm starting to second-guess myself. I want a lift, I know that, but there's so many options, and I don't want to make such a big purchase and then regret it.

If it's articulation you want, hold off untill Summer as there are several SFA conversions in the works.

I'd love to, but an SFA conversion is definitely out of my budget since I'm still a junior in H.S.

Did you check out Rusty's spring lift kit? It's around $465.00 and most people are happy with it.

No, I hadn't seen that. Thanks for posting that. Another option. Will shops usually install kits brought in from online? I really don't trust myself enough yet to put on something like a lift kit which affects something that important.

Auggy, by the way, cool to see someone else in my situation on here.

You can get all the info you want here on instalation, it's not rocket science. And chances are, someone on the site my live near you and give you a hand with it. Save that money for tires, skids, lockers, ect.
Yeah, we do that!

I graduated '05 guys. I am going to give you step by step instructions on how to get this done right and cheap.

1: order lift kit
2: when lift kit arrives go to your local regional chapter
3: make a post stating what brand of lift you have, include the words Lift Party and free Pizza/beverages.
4: install lift with guys that have installed it and have experience (most 4x4 shops DO NOT have experience with the KJ)
5: post before and after pics in the pics section
6: go wheelin

If you follow the traditional 6 step LOST method yu save money and gain knowledge. Good Luck.

Hey desertkj, with a list like you have in the coming soon part of your signature, I sure wish I was on a "budget" like that!!!

All jokes aside, though do what ManicMechanicJoe said and try to put it on yourself with the help of some experienced members. That's what I did, and I am so glad. I learned alot, made a new friend, and saved a bundle of cash. This is what it's all about.

Me three. Can't wait till next year, with graduation. I'm trying to do a mod at least once a year, so I'm thinking rear bumper and/or new rims. I'm at least gonna get some lights.
It's weird "growing up" with the KJ and doing mods. Us youngens will definitely see these vehicles to their end. Hell, by the time my odometer says 75K I'd LOVe to throw a SFA in the front of my Lib.

Well I have a spacer lift and rancho shocks, and I have GAINED articulation over what I had stock. Total cost...$250. And now I'm running 255 tires with no trouble and the KJ flexes a LOT more than it used to. Before I'd lift the rear tires in a hurry...now they stay on the ground longer and give me more traction. I don't think I'd rule out spacer lifts so quickly...especially if you are on a budget.

Time for You to join the AZ LOST folks and see if they will do a lift party in your honor. There are some great folks in that group that I bet would help you out.

DesertKJ, you've got an '02--just pick up the RRO Combo lift and new struts and shocks. Then throw a lift party. You're good to go, and you'll have a lift that performs beautifully on a pre-lowered KJ.

The RRO Combo kit will give you almost an inch more height than the Skyjacker kit, and I've been abusing mine for a couple of years. No complaints whatsoever.

Wow we sound like the same person. I am also a Junior in High School and was going to order the Skyjacker Lift for my 05 Renegade, but I keep second guessing myself on the lift. Sounds like there will be a lot of lift party invitations soon.

Seriously guys . . . plan the Lift Party.

I haven't been on the forum very long (lurched for a while) but when I did throw out an invite for a Lift Party in Houston, Texas, it didn't take long to rally quite a few troops willing to come help out, hang out, and/or do some work on their own rigs.

Our party will be on Feb. 11 but we've moved it to Waco, Texas because we have access to much better facilities there . . . courtesy of a LOST memeber. In any case, it's well worth a 3 hour drive to me.

And, doing it with some other LOST guys has a much higher FUN factor . . . handing money to a shop and waiting around isn't nearly as fun.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Well, I decided that I will go with the Frankenlift and not the Skyjacker. I'm thinking about driving to the shop and getting it installed. Sounds like a good excuse to me for a road trip and a trip to Cali. :)
