Post subject:  Frankenlift?

I was pretty set on the Skyjacker, but now it seems like Frankenlift has a strong following here. Any particular reasons for or against either of the kits? I've been trying to research and have been lost in the sea of opinions on the internet. If you've had any personal experiences with either, they would be greatly appreciated.

I've had both lifts (among others). The Frankenlift is an amazing kit and that's what I'm sticking with. The other kits have given me problems...coil bind, ball joint issues, bad struts, CV issues. The Frankenlift has been rock solid since the day I put it on.

the frankenlift was born here...parents are always more fond of their kids then somebody else's. The Frankenlift is the best lift out there because it was designed by the same guys that started this forum. No other lift kit has this kind of testing to back it up.

well i wish they would hurry up and make a kit for the CRD.....

Why don't you make one yourself? That's sorta what they did; find a lift that worked.

Besides, we can't get CRDs in CA.

So what would happen if you owned a CRD and had to move to CA? Would you have to sell it?

No, there are three ways to get around that.

(1) bring in a used, previously-registered vehicle with over 7500 miles on the odometer

(2) have it gifted to you

(3) buy one as a replacement vehicle for your vehicle which breaks down beyond reasonable repair while out-of-state

Also, I forgot to ask why doesnt the Frankelift work or fit the CRD? whats the difference?

It fits, but the springs are to soft for the CRD. People are going with Daystar puck lift and RRO Combo until someone comes out with heavier front lift coils.

so if the manufaturers know this, why cant they make a stronger spring? is it a metal composition thing? I guess i just dont get it.

Its not that they can't be made...there just hasn't been a manufacturer that has yet.

well cant the people at boulder bars and OME etc... just make em stronger? or put in a request to whomever does? Or is it a supply and demand thing?

It will take a little time. The CRD is newer than the normal Liberty, and it's heavier. I would not be surprised if someone is already working on it, but these things have to be tested before they can be marketed.

Pretty much. A manufacturer isn't going to spend $$$ on R&D if they aren't convinced they will make it back after coming to market.

If you want springs then the best thing you can do is contact the manufacturers directly and request them. If they hear from enough people you'll have your springs.

BTW, Boulder Bars does not manufacture springs. The ones they use in the Frankenlift are made by OME. So they're pretty much in the same situation...all they can do is ask.

0311: You should take the lead on this since you sound so passionate. There's a CRD section here for you to drum up internal support and there's a 'What we need' section to put out a broadcast.

The Frankenlift was done out of necessity by LOST guys. Since no prefect lift existed for the KJ they took it upon themselves to find something that worked well. And it got the heck tested out of it. Even after deployment it had gone through a mod; the original Daystar rear springs were replaced with OME.

Anyone can build a Frankenlift but AllJ offers it all assembled and with tech support.

If you want a good lift for the CRD you should take the point and find a way to make it happen.

ps: You might start with AZScout down in AZ. He's lfited and he's a hard wheelin' CRD owner.

I'm using the front springs from Rocky Road Outfitters that were designed for the heavy duty bumper, and they work well on my CRD. The CRD engine is only 200 lbs. or so heavier than the V-6, so unless you have the diesel engine, a heavy bumper, and/or a winch, it's hard for me to believe that different springs would make a huge difference.

Unless you weigh what I do...

Thats what i was wondering. If you have a crd why couldnt you get the same springs you would get with a gasser and the arb bumper? Of course that thing may not weigh 200lbs, i figured it would with a winch though.

Does the franken lift use spacers with taller springs in the back?

No spacers in the back. 1.5" spacers in the front.
