Hi all,

I have to drive cross country in a week and my passenger CV half shaft is making a "whupping" sound like the bearing is going/gone. I looked at the autozone site and the cv half shafts and it doesn't look like it has the axle shaft that goes into the diff. Is that the case and if so are there special tools/techniques I need to connect the cv half shaft to the axle shaft?

I found a good write up on the process here:
http://www.jeepslimited.com/index.php?o ... Itemid=120

but it seemed like it address taking the axle shaft out with the half shaft.

Thanks in advance for any info!!

It's a jeep thing, my levels of perception are sufficient to ascertain your implication

Stay away from Autozone first for CVs!!!!!
NAPA has rebuilt ones that are the correct length and work great, plus they are like 50-60 bucks with tradein
What we have is the CV and an intermediate shaft on the right side. Most times what happens is the CV and Intermediate shaft rust together and then you get the noise. Its very easy to replace them
For the Intermediate shaft check and see if Eric at Automotive Parts Unlimited has them back in yet, 800-270-5224, ericautoparts@aol.com
Heres a picture of both parts

Thanks for the info Tommudd, I'll go with napa. I think that my intermediate shaft is OK (not sure though). Is there some kind of clips that hold the male end of intermediate shaft in the female end of cv shaft or does the spindle nut just keep it all smashed together?

Thanks!

There is a clip on each end of the intermediate shaft
Check it close 9 times out of ten it will need replacing.
What happens is they rust , then start wearing and by the time you hear any noise its all over. Mine looked OK when I first pulled it out until I cleaned it up. Thankfully I bought one 3 years ago , stock piled it and was ready!

blurry but......

Thanks again Tommudd, you're saving my bacon. I'm really in a time crunch and need to get this done. Is there a source for those clips in case mines toast? I googled it but not finding anything.
