Lately it seems that as soon as i hit the 100,000 mile mark on the KJ, everything seems to be breaking/ falling apart.

#1. Front Drive Shaft
- It has been removed and i am waiting for some extra funds, and it is ok to drive around for a little bit. or that is what i am told at least. Looking for some extra money

#2. Upper Ball Joints
- Apparently when i lifted the jeep, (2inch BDS Suspension Lift) i had changed the angles of the ball joint. not knowing this at the time, they were bad for a while. I have since save up money, ( the money that i saved for the front drive shaft) and purchased a set of JBA arms by jeepinbyAL

and now my newest problem..

On my way into work today, i have began to hear this whining sound coming from the engine bay. when i got to work, i let the jeep idol for a bit, popped the hood and listened...

from what i think the sound is coming from is from the A/C compressor... and the part of the intake (the black box where it says 3.7L on top of the engine).

i still have cold air and hot air. and the sound does not change at all when i change the settings between ac and hot air on the dial. possibly a tension adjustments? i have read on here about a guy who bypassed the ac compressor all together, but can not find the thread.

The other sound where i think it is coming from sounds louder than the AC compressor. it sort of sounds like something is stuck open.. sort of like an aftermarket intake... like it is held open.. i dunno. the sound is loud enough for me to hear it with the windows down, going 70mph on the highway.

any help on what this can be would def be appreciated. It seems like as soon as i hit the 100,000 mile mark EVERY thing is falling apart. i hope this is normal... and i hope the experts out there on this forum can help me out.

i hope that the kj will make the 30 mile trip home in the condition that is in. haha

thanks alot everyone!!!

I know your pain, I started having my issues after 100k as well.

I recently had the tensioner pulley go bad on me, I ended up replacing all three pulleys for roughly $100-$150 (with labor from a small local shop). It was making that same sound. The stealership tried to tell me it was the AC compressor, but it didn't make the noise till after they had replaced the belt and thus put the tensioner pulley into a different position than it had gotten used to with the old worn out stretched out pulley.

Try turning the AC completely OFF not to hot air, but turn it OFF and see if it goes away. Without the extra strain on the pulley, mine stopped making noise. This is why they tried to convince me it was the compressor.

It sounds to me like a very similar sound that I was having when my tensioner pulley needed replacing anyway.

It could throw the belt and cost you more hassle, so I'd get it checked out sooner than later, which it sounds like you're doing, so I'll shut up now

Hope you get it figured out

thanks for the help tom... will this be a bad thing to do? will i loose anything? besides heat and ac.. for a temp. solution for the summer.. this should be ok right?

Edit:

Why would there be sound coming from the intake manifold? are throttle bodies known to go bad in the kjs?

So i just got back from the mechanic. And the problem is my AC compressor as people have thought. I am not going to do this job, so i was like do what you gotta do. we looked up parts and for a complete kit for the compressor it went for 245-300.

so 500 dollars later i assume will do the trick. haha

i am def. in the wrong business... kinda wish i went into the field of auto repair. haha

thanks again everyone for all your help!!
