What purpose does the plastic with the sound proofing serve other than providing room for another layer of rocks and dirt on top of the factory skid? Is this something I can just leave out when I put it back on. I find myself pondering its necessity every time I change the front diff fluid.

Thanks
Jeremy

I ponder the same thing, yet I still add that plastic dirt holder thingie back to my skid everytime I drop it.

Is this to protect the cv's from foreign objects?I don't know....

Well, I left it out this time...

We'll see if it makes a difference.

It's just a flimsy plastic/fabric insert in the normal KJ skid. Mine got snagged and a little torn on some rocks and was just collecting dirt otherwise. I took the sections apart to clean them with the hose and "forgot" to put that part back. It might offer protection from dirty looks and possibly paint-balls shot at your cv joints, but that's about it.
