Hello all,

I've torn my passenger side cv boot and I'm trying to replace the cv axle shaft. I've gotten the upper and lower ball joint nut removed and the bottom of the strut fork but that knuckle isn't coming off. I haven't tried beating the heck out of it yet with a BFH, but is that normal? Does it usually require a lot of persuasion?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

It's a jeep thing, my levels of perception are sufficient to ascertain your implication

I never take the ball joint nut completely off - just loose - the spring is pushing it apart - you want to be able to control the release.

1 hit with a big hammer against the end of the A arm normally pops it loose, rare occasions a second hit - but you should not be 'beating' on it.

Most of the time one or two hits will knock them loose, I always take the nut(s) completely off then run them back on till the bottom of the ball joint bolt just shows then smack em! That way you know the threads are clean and the nut will come off easy

MAN! I cannot get these things to let go. I'm letting them soak in some wd40 for a bit. I don't know if you guys run into this or if it's just me, but something always has to fight me and it's usually something normally really simple. :furious:

WD 40 is just a water displacement not good as a penetrating fluid

Also you have to hit them hard some times, When I'm doing a lift for someone I always tell them to walk outside and not listen as I "bang " their ride

Hey hi Paul
50/50 mix of acetone and tranny fluid is best for stuck parts-
So when are you out for another run?
