This past winter's blizzard allowed me to finally get some use out of 4 Lo in the snow. I have found that the KJ boggs down when turning in 4 Lo....badly. For example, if I have it in 4L and get off the cast, coast and turn left or right to say...park the vehicle or even to go around a turn, it will literally come to a stop. If I stay in the gas around the turn, I still lose lots of speed. Is there something botched up in my case?

Sounds like typical drivelilne bind which occurs on any surface that isn't loose enough. You say you get off the cast, but what's the makeup of the surface? Even a hard dirt road will cause this effect.

Be real careful when making tight turns in 4lo on any surface. You have to realize that your front wheels are pulling you at the same time your rear wheels are pushing you. And with real 4wd, there's no center differential to account for the mismatched speeds of front and rear wheels. You could damage your transfer case if you push through a turn when you're feeling resistance.

My gut feeling is you've got nothing wrong and everything is working as designed.

During our 2008 blizzard, I was able to cruise around in 4hi which seems to be a bit more forgiving.

You should'nt have to use 4 LO on pavement just because there's snow.

You shouldn't use 4lo over 7mph, more or less. If you're really stuck, then maybe to get out, but thats it, you should put it back in 4hi.
It's really for extreme situations, like actual rock crawling.

I understand the bind issue based on surface. I live way out in the sticks. We had no snow removal for a week. The only way out was basically to blaze through it. It was a very granular non-packing type of snow. Surfaces below ranged from loose gravel to dirt until I hit the road into town. I've got some offroad experience and understand the time to use 4Lo. My problem was that 4 high wasn't cutting it. We had drifts that were well over my hood.

At any rate, we'll roll on with it and see what happens.
