What does this have to do with a CRD?

Dunno why you guys feel the need to show how 'good' your gassers are...I think you all have CRD envy.

I'll figure out an adapter to attach my 5th wheel trailer to a ball and load up two of my pullin tractors

who wants to give it a tug? lol

most i towed with my kj when i actually had a hitch, other than across the yard, was a lawn mower on an 12 foot double axle flat,

Some observations on the Honda pic: Slide the car back about 1.5 feet to relieve some of the tongue weight. Your jeep is very nose-high.

There is no doubt the KJ can move some weight, but it is the stopping that can be an issue.

Nope...back the Honda on the trailer and start from there...

the honda was pointed downhill towards a ditch so I backed the trailer into the ditch and shoved the car on. Wasn't until it was on the trailer that I remembered how front heavy front wheel drive cars are. Really had no problem stopping to my surprise. Had a couple long down hill grades had little effect on the trip. Next time i'm using the stabilizer arms.

Yoow!

Tahoe you have one of those? That's an interesting solution, not sure I'd want to have to use it though, it looks like what I've always called a asphalt knife, every time ya come out of a gas station or something where theres a large dip, it turns into an asphalt knife, however ignoring that, for folk who can't or don't want to install a 5th wheel in the bed of the truck and do the frame work it looks like a solution

have a 5th wheel in the turbo diesel that we use just for towing the trailer, after several grand in the front suspension, our f250 still drives like crap, so the primary driver of it ended up just using a beater ranger as a DD

before the TD we were using a F150 with a 5th and a built 351 and it just didn't have the cajones to handle that much weight, before that we were using a tongue trailer with every stabilizer possible on a old surburban with a built 400, it had the cajones, but like the lib or any other tongue trailer setup, too much weight, even within the constraints of what the hitch/trailer/properly balanced, it's just too much for the vehicle should you ever get in a situation to have to swerve the least bit or make a fast stop

one too many times on the highway the trailer brakes would be borderline locked up and the surburban would be to the floor just to keep the trailer behind us while emergency stops

that particular 5th wheel adapter looks like it would do much to assist the tongue weight but still doesn't give you much more than a tongue trailer when it comes to manuvering and stopping

be interested to talk to someone whos actually used one though

JJ, don't have one, do a search for "hitch buddy" . Seems they had a website at one time, but doesn't seem to show up, I did read one review, the guy hated it so much, they bough tit back from him. Anyway, there is some info on forums out there, never seen one in person.

Back on the topic, I pulled my 6-700# trailer with the wife's Libby this weekend.... am so glad I drive a V8, that thing was horrible. My Tahoe drgs down like that when I got 4000# back there. The Libby had no power at all, kept hunting gears on the highway, had to use Use 3rd gear for a lot of the trip since it seemed it needed power. There is no way I would take my 3000# camper on a trip with it, makes me miss our old S10 4.3L blazer.
I don't know how you all pull large trailers with these things, I would be scared to pull anything with any size a long distance.... and I've pull 5-6000# regularly on my flatbed and with horse trailers so I'm not a newbie to pulling.

Im not going to get into that CRD vs. gasser thing again. That said my CRD got 25 MPG towing 5000 lbs from Seattle to Phoenix.

Can you say the same?

My wife just drove the ALCAN highway pulling a 5,000 lb enclosed trailer and got 21mpg with the CRD. However she did say it would have been nice to have trailer brakes on the trailer.
