I have a Daystar 2.5 incher with 245/70/16 Grabber AT2's. For about a year or so now, there has been the most annoying "clunk" when I drive over any bumps (usually individual tires at a time, not necessarily speedbumps). Got new shocks, still there. Took it into the shop today where CMax26az works (who has the an 07 with the same lift) and he has the exact same problem and has tried everything to get rid of it. It sounds like a loose suspension kick but everything is tight and secure. Any suggestions??????? Thanks. |

Its most likely the A-arms hitting the springs. I have that noise and I dont mind it until I have the funds to get the JBA arms(which is the fix if it is hitting the spring.) The cause is that the factory a-arms are not on an angle like the JBA ones, they are meant to be installed with a lifted jeep, which allows 3/8" more clearance, hence eliminating the contact and sounds your hearing. The A-arms are about 350$ and they really do make a difference in your offroad abilities. Jack up the front and see if there is arm/spring contact. |

I never had that problem on my 07 when I had the Daystar lift. And I was maxed out on the toggle bolts. But every KJ is different. Might be UCA/Spring contact. Might be UBJ or LBJ starting to fail. Might also be swaybar making noise. I did not get spring/UCA contact until i was over 23" (center of hub to fender). Do you have clevis and/or top plate in addition to the Daystar lift? |

Mine was making a clunk on every bump. It was the sway bar links. You had to shake to crap out of it to see and hear it happen in the drive way. |

Any play in the steering? I had a universal joint in the intermediate steering shaft go bad on my ’05; caused clunking over uneven ground as the tires pull back and forth. The sound was more in the column though, worth a check. -sh00ter |

Opening up an old thread... i just bought a set of the JBA upper control arms for a lifted KJ with 2 inches or more. Installed it about 1 1/2 weeks ago... I am still getting a banging/ clinking sound when i go over bumps on the road. Would this be the sway bar links? and would a new set of MOOG sway bar links solve this? JBA quick connects cant really afford them. anyone have any insight? thanks |

Adding quick disconnects will only add to the banging sound... just saying. Have you checked them yet? There are many things that can cause issues some of the ones I've dealt with are: Dumb-a$$ tranny shop forgot to tighten the bolts on the front diff when re-installed causing the diff to hit skidplate Cheesy MOPAR t-case skid bent causing contact with the t-case Rear control arm bracket mushroomed after rock contact causing the bolt to loosen causing a clunk that I swore was coming from the front (took a year to figure that one out) Super-toast CVs that made a serious metal on metal racket |

I have noted an occaisional rather loud and scary clunk/bang in my "rear suspension?" usually when I am accelerating rather briskly, while turning, and drive over a bump. Is this the same issue being mentioned here? |

Yours could be your rear tri link ball joint that's bad, it will cause a thump like that, if it is coming from the rear Others, remove your sway bar links and reinstall with the full weight sitting on the tires, IF you installed them while it was jacked up it puts them on a bind and will cause noises at times |

We did install them when the KJ was on a lift. I'll take your advice and try that method out... still thinking about purchasing new end Links. ...would the Moog end links be okay to run with a 2 inch lift? |

When I did my lift a while back I was getting a clunk going over bumps, turned out to be the top nut on the strut assemblies needed to be tightened down. Couple of turns with the wrench and it has been quiet ever since. |

i never had this sound until we switched out the upper control arm with the JBA's.... im going to check the nuts and bolts and make sure everything is tight when i get home after work. tom, correct me if i am wrong, but when you say that they caused binding when installed on the lift... should i just take them off with out lifting the front? is it relatively easy to take them off and put them back on with no jack. lift? It is something i can do in my drive way to remove the sway bar links right? |

one thing i found on mine was a skid plate was lose, one of the nutzerts has not grabbed to the frame so it pops out and back in creating a random popping noise |

Just Be Aware that the noise can be something else is the message you should take away from my post... just sayin'... The way my year-long suffering with a massive clunk finally ended is with a visit to a local 4x4 shop. I had many experts look at it and all had different diagnosis. The simple solution came when the technician told my to climb onto the bumper and rock the Jeep back and forth until the noise could be heard. He crawled underneath and located the problem by ear. Ten mins and $10 later what was loose was tightened and my year-long suffering was over. I imagine you can try this method with a buddy and quickly localize the problem area. It's hard to determine the exact noise point source from the driver seat in a unibody vehicle. From the DS my loose rear bolt made noise that seemed to come from the front pass corner. Right now you're putting effort into a WAG. |
