So I'm driving the CRD around and hear this clunking from the rear. After a bit of wiggling and looking, it seems the ball joint in the rear tri-link/y-link/UCA is all kinds of wobbly. I've not heard of one of these failing, but I have realized that anything that can fail on these Jeeps will.

Anyone ever replace one? It doesn't look too hard, but I am sure it is. I have rarely done something to this Jeep for less than $1000 and 5 hours of work it seems.

The stealership wants $165 for just the ball joint, no surprise. I've only seen the joint itself at one site, and it appears to always be down. The entire link can be had from a couple places for around $175 shipped. Seems like it might be easier to replace the entire thing.

Of course JBA now has their new quad link for the KJ. A mere $565. No doubt a bargain at twice the price...

Any comments or info is appreciated.

Thanks, Rob

It looks like it needs to be pressed in. I don't suppose a decent hammer and a 2x4 would do the trick? I am so tired of taking my Jeep to amateurs pretending to be pros, paying them a min of $100 and then going back again in a few days to let them try again.

Thanks Tom, you're my hero.

Taking your advice Tom, I ordered a new link. $165 shipped. Not the cheapest solution, but likely the easiest. Thanks for the info.
