Yeah cool video. I love how the CJ couldn't even get up out of the hole under it own power at all....looked like it flooded out or something....once that KJ started hauling it didn't quit.....nice!

Okay, I don't get it. The Liberty was on dry ground with no real trail in front of it. My wife's Subaru might have pulled the guy out of that under those conditions. Where's the beef?

Well this is a KJ site so anything involving a KJ gets us excited. (unless it's a dead KJ)

I'm with greiswig on this one...if the lib had run the pit and made it out under its own power then yanked the CJ, this video would be great. Still cool to see. Was that CJ even running? Usually when we get vehicles stuck we have both the puller and the pullee on the throttle to help get em out...

If you listen to the video it sounds like the CJ wont start. Pulling a dead vehicle out of that pit would not be an easy task. It also looks like the KJ was having traction problems not power problems. The video is Bought vs Built, the KJ probably has the Goodyear ST's on it. Obviously with all the other Jeeps sitting around there they just wanted to see if the KJ could do it, if thats not about pride I don't know what is.

A Subaru would not be able to do that. Just guessing but im sure they dont weigh near as much as the kj. If that kj had a locker it would of been alot easier.

There was also more things going on in that moive we didnt see, i believe a tree was under his tire stopping it from coming out. Ive seen this moive a couple of times.

Exactly. A Subaru doesn't even have a real 4-wheel-drive system. All it has is an aluminum drivetrain built for snow. It would grendade if it tried to pull this CJ out of a hole.

The Liberty in this vid has lots of weight, and a real drivetrain. And that is why it was able to accomplish this task. You guys would be surprised at how difficult it actually is to pull a rig out of a mud hole like this.

Congrats to that KJ!!

I've used my wife's Subaru to pull someone out of mud at the side of the road before, and while the slope wasn't as much and there wasn't a tree hidden under the mud, it wasn't a big deal even though we were on gravel.

As for not knowing how difficult it is...I'd guess that I've pulled several dozen vehicles out of stucks like that, mostly using an Isuzu Amigo (about the same weight as a Libby), some with a Unimog (about twice the weight!), and once with the Subaru. So, no offense intended LibertyCRD, but I doubt I'd "be surprised."

Still, I don't want to poop on anyone's party. If it makes Liberty owners feel good, fine. But if the CJ/Wrangler guys are reacting to this kind of "In your face, CJ!" thing from Liberty owners, I can partly understand why they'd label Liberty owners whiners. That video just doesn't represent a "face" moment to me.

Okay, I'm fine on the concept of people being curious about whether the Liberty could do it. But the whole "built v. bought" thing implies a competition, when absolutely none took place. If I owned the CJ, I would have been a little miffed by that implication. And if I ever encountered the situation in reverse (Liberty stuck, especially the video publisher's Liberty), it would be tempting to say something like "Well, I'm only a CJ, not a Liberty...built and not bought...so I probably can't help."

My Liberty is a surprisingly capable vehicle off-road. But even one like mine with a lift, larger mud tires and a LS rear probably isn't as capable as a purpose-built CJ, even taking into account that the driver is 75% of the capability.

A Sub wouldn't "grenade" pulling that CJ out.

Aliminum drive train? Do you know what your front diff, transfer case, and transmission casings are made from...the big A. Glass houses man, glass houses.

I guess I just don't see the big deal / coolness of getting someone unstuck. Having been unstuck a few times myself, it was a testament to the prowess of the recovery vehicle so mach as my own stupidity / Murphy's law LOL.

That's exactly what makes this video cool. A less capable vehicle towing out the purpose built rig. If it were two built CJs...no biggie. Two KJs...no biggie. But the sight of a KJ pulling a built CJ through the mud, uphill, and onto flat ground is awesome.
