Hi, Well, I got my jeep lifted and put on the new tires and rims Now, I want to remove the running boards, side step or what ever you call it that came on my Renegade to make it look better. When I removed it, I noticed that there is no cover on the pinch weld that runs along the truck underneath the body on each side. It looks like crap because you can see some rust starting on it. I'm pretty sure the libertys that didn't have the side step has a ground effect or cover over it along the bottom. What is this called and where do you get it? Looking for something cheap right now because I'll get rock sliders down the road. Don't want to spend $300 bucks on these when I can get the sliders for around $400. Ebay or online??? I haven't found anything because I don't know what to put in the search... I tried rock guard, sill, trim, cover, rocker, nothing so far. Thanks! |

flat black primer / spray on bed liner is probably the cheapest solution |

I think that part is called rocker panel molding or side rocker body molding. I did some searches on those though and turned up nothing. Mine has that black plastic stuff along the bottom so I know what you mean, but I can't find it online. Maybe you'll have better luck than me. I think JeepinJarHead has the right idea. Hit it with some rust eating paint so it doesn't get worse until you can get your rock rails on. |

except where the board brackets are, all of that stuff is basically nekked to the elements with the boards on anyway, so get some liquid clothes on the nekkidness, even if you DO happen to find a set of the plastic covers i want to say quadratrac had those plastic pinch covers at one point.. whether or not they still carry them i have no idea they discontinued carrying a bunch of the older "oem" type stuff for the KJs |

Dirt salt and other crap gets up in there if you cover them up, so let them be open and free to the breeze! |

tommudd wrote: Dirt salt and other crap gets up in there if you cover them up, so let them be open and free to the breeze! I removed my Renegade side steps years ago when I installed rock rails. My wife wanted the side steps for her Liberty Sport, so when I installed them I removed the moulding pieces from hers to install on mine. I rock guarded before installing, but like Tom says they collect garbage so I still find myself removing them each spring, cleaning out the debri and re-installing. So the suggestion to just rock guard them and leave them exposed is pretty sound advice IMHO. However if you still want to cover them up cheaply you could probably use a strip of the door guards you can buy to protect door edges, and this would likely be an easier remove and re-install for cleaning then the actual moulding pieces that are held on by the little Xmas tree inserts (which I manage to destroy a few of each spring when removing) |

Thanks for your help everyone. I think Ill end up spraying them with some primer and some rock guard stuff. Maybe put some of the door edging on there too until I get the rock guards. Cheaper is better for now! |
