So I just installed an RRO 2 deluxe lift on my liberty... The one with OME springs and Struts.. and an RRO top plate spacer. I didnt hear any noise at first but now when i hit a bump it sounds like a clunking sound up front... Breaking in? Springs seating? Confused? Any ideas? "Stingn" Steve .. Helped me install the lift.. Other than our Redneck and near impossible way of compressing a spring to assemble the strut, everything else went well.. Things to check and look at?

Secondly, I need new tires... I want a good tire size that i can comfortably run on my 02 liberty. I saw and liked the 245/75/16 treadwrights MTRs that he had... Using Stock 16" wheels

I want an aggressive tread pattern something that will be good for offroading ... Honestly more for look I love the way the MTRs look with the aggressive sidewall tread..

Any Suggestions that wont break the bank?

Im new community and have read a lot of usefull information.. Maybe I should split this into two threads... Ohh well feeling lazy!

I know Steve knows "somewhat" how to do a lift but......
anyways just go back over everything and check to make sure everything is tight.
Did you install the sway bar links when it was on the ground or still in the air.
All will have some creaks breaking in and with RROs setup could be a little more

for tires hard to beat the Treadwright tires as far as price, they are a little heavier than a regular tire but like I stated good price for what you get.
245-75 is a good size on stock wheels and stock gearing

What do you mean by the setup could be a little more?

We installed the end links while it was in the air, not sure if thats right or wrong?... This whole 4x4 thing is new to me, ask me about anything drag or track related anything that goes around a concrete smooth track or a straight line and im great!! Anyways.. maybe my noise could be from the broken sway bar end link bolt to control arm on the passenger side... Had to order a new bolt be here at 10 am today now technically.. Everything was torqued to specs.. So I'll see if it goes away then... Just funny that the noise wasnt there yesterday and today the next day its here both days with a broken end link.. I mean really the only thing thats RRO is the spacer plate between the strut top plate and the unibody. I mean everything up front is essentially OME lift springs and struts using the factory top plate and the rro spacer from what i can see...

So the creaks will probably dissipate with time?

Will the treadwright MTRs vs Yokohoma Geolander A/Ts "What I currently have" differences... Never gone a day off roading in my life and I really want to. I just dont want to get out there and be like "bleep" why didn't I ask what tires actually work.

I just have 700 to spend on tires and really not much more.. Really would like to save the money with the treadwrights.. Just want to make sure its worth it.. If theres is something that i can pick up for under 700 that would be better I would as long as it has an agressive tread pattern

Thanks for the all answering of my neverending questions Tom you've been a lot of help to me even though you may not know.. Thanks again Stingn for all your help

I don't have anything rro on my kj, but I get a clunking going over larger bumps on the rebound, its my upper control arms contacting the spring assembly. Just a thought.
You want to tighten your swaybar links when the vehicle is weight-bearing, on the ground. Once you do get the correct bolts, I would loosen them both, and then re-torque with the KJ on the ground.

CORRECT

Actually... and I don't know if this is 'right', but... I really don't pay that much attention to torque specs on the lower swaybar links. I get them as tight as I can possibly get them... otherwise (for me) they will work themselves loose and rattle again later on.

But, I'm sure that's what Mudd meant about tightening bolts on the ground vs. on jackstands.
And again correct
Plus don't take this the wrong way but you sound like you are new to all of this so after you lift one the whole system is running on a different plane, all of the bushings rear u joints , everything is now sitting at different angles and will take a while to break in to those new angles.
Like I stated above, check everything over real close, install the new link with the weight on the ground, loosen the other one and retighten, spray some silicone spray on the sway bar bushings and drive it
Then if you have 700 to spend order some tread wrights.
You really shouldn't have any sound at all coming from the suspension after lifted.

Hmm, it sounds like we have the same lift. I ordered my struts pre-assembled.

I don't remember any clunking sounds from the front. I do remember lots of squeaking that sounded like rubber bushings and what not. I should have lubricated the bushings with soap.

RRO does warn that funky things can happen if the upper A arm, ball joint, and bump stops are put together wrong. See the PLEASE NOTE section of http://www.rocky-road.com/kjarm.html. In particular they warn about mounting the ball joint to the wrong side of the control arm.

I did have a heck of a racket coming from the back after going over a bump. It turned out that bolts on the rear shocks were not tight enough. One came loose.

The suspension was incredibly stiff at first. It took maybe three months to break in. Now that it's broken in I'm happy with it. I still think it might be a little stiff in the front, but that's good given that I plan to add some weight over the coming year.

RRO has to say something to cover their behinds since they don't back anything they sell
