Post subject:  4:10's?

When I was getting my lift installed, I talked to my mechanic about regearing a little bit. He said it would be a lot easier and cheaper to get a Jeep with 4:10's in it and swap with it. So my question is, can I find any Jeep axle? or does it have to be 4:10's out of a KJ? There's quite a few TJ and YJ axles on Craigslist, so could I just swap the gears from those? And would the gears from the Wrangler's SFA work with the Liberty's IFS?

Thanks for any help!

some of those apps you questioned about in terms of the rear axle, aren't running a 8.25 chrysler

if they are, answer is yes, if they aren't and are running a Dana 35 or 44 rear, answer is no

gears for the IFS, if the wrangler has a D30 sfa front, the ring gear will work, pinon won't (longer shank)

you're really better off buying new quality rings and a rebuild kit since you often don't know what those axles have been through or what condition they're in

do it right, do it once

some early 2.4l gasser KJs had 4.10s from factory. good luck finding them. dont even bother trying to stuff another axle with 4.10s from a different vehicle. if you want 4.10s buy the gears and get the work done.

How much would I be looking at spending to get front and rear done total then? And as I would imagine the front would be alot more expensive to install, could I just get the back done for now? or would I run into problems when in 4 wheel drive then?

Gear sets have to be matched front and rear, i.e. both 3.73 or both 4.10s
You could do the rear and then remove the front driveshaft and run like that I guess
Only way to go is like mentioned above.
I've had three front diffs that I bought over the years with 4.10s in them but they are hard to find
no don't have them, one is in mine other two sold
Gearsets and bearings etc are not that expensive, finding some one to install them that knows what they are doing is the more expensive part
Whole front diff needs to be R&R'd to install the front gears, not a big deal but takes a couple of hours extra

It may be a next spring or summer before I do anything, but I found some ring and pinions on ebay.
$277 for the front and $210 for the rear
Do those sound right for price? and is that all I would need then?

Depends on who makes them if they are a good price or not.
Kind of like comparing OME springs and Rustys
Some are great some you'll wished you would of never bought
Of course Mopar ones are the best
Precision , Yukon, Motive are or were good
don't want Genuine , gear noise
I'm running regular MOPAR ones in the front, Motive in the rear
But then I bought the Motive over 2 years ago and not sure what the new ones are like now

the rears are motive, and the front are OMIX? thats the only company name I saw on the page.
but, I'm not in a real hurry, so I will probably just keep an eye out for some deals

Only one company makes the correct gears for the D30A and that is Dana/Spicer.
