| Post subject: | What size of tire? |
Ok, Jeep newbie here. I have a question for the KJ owners, I know there is a 1" height difference from the 02 to the 03+ in the stock form. My question is with the OME lift can I run 265/75/16 on the 03 KJ? I eventually will be installing an ARB front bumper, however I do not really want to cut up the fender well. Can someone or everyone help me out here? |

with a 32" tall tire your going to need to regear to 4.10's. And as far as clearence, the rear is going to need some exrta top iso's so you don't ripp off your fender flares. (along with some taller bump stops installed). Front, trimming and pounding. But mostly the regear part. You will not be happy with the power drain that 265/75's put on the engine. And that means more strain on all the drive train as a whole. Higher operating temps........ so on and so on..................... I believe its time for the Rev. to throw in his words of wisdom.....

In stock form there was a 3/4 inch difference, not 1 inch between 02- and 03 up from that magical April 12th date Second if you are doing a full spring lift then it makes no difference, You're replacing what the difference was So....you're replacing the springs so the same amount of lift will be achieved no matter what year With just a OME full spring lift 265-75s would be tight if you're going out on trails Would need to do a clevis and possibly a top plate as well , If you go with a Frankenlift then you'll more than likely have room BUT, going to 265-75s also brings up the need to regear no matter what some say With that said and doing the above you can run 265-75s without cutting up the fender well, ( well except for the pinch weld) |

Thanks guys for the input. I figured the re-gearing part (along with air lockers) in the over-all cost. I was just trying to do what I could for now. Guess I will go to the tire shop and compare tire size (245 vs. 265) and price. Any recommendations for tires? No AT's. The rig will see more pavement then trails but I do not like AT's. |

I really like my Cooper STT's. They are 255/70/16, no rubbing and still a bit wider. They look big but are only 30.3" tall and no regearing, just make sure you get the BCM reprogramed for the new tire size. That way the tranny will shift when it is suppose to and get some of that power back. It was only $35 at my local dealer. |

I think there should be a Newbie section where you have to pass a basic quiz with questions that all new people ask, in order to enter the forum. For example Q: What is the biggest tire I can stuff without rubbing Answers: 1) 225 2)265 3)245 4)240 Etc.Its just crazy to see the same questions asked over and over and see people who get mad at it. I mean you were that person at once but it just gets annoying. on second thought maybe it would deter members from joining? |

A lot of variables, Where you live, altitude and terrain, tire weight, etc. Personally, I still haven't seen a lot of loss of power from going to my 32's, and they've been everywhere coast to coast. Of course mine are P rated AT's so they are very light compared to a LT. |

Yeah, I know what you mean. I work in nc right now, but will be back in WV eventually...and my parts are realllllly hilly. On the other hand tho, I drive a jeep and never expected great mileage or speed to begin with! |

Didn't want a load E I wanted a load C because they are lighter and still strong. |
