So was offroading today and went down a very trick section of trail(at least what it seemed like from my experience) and I was almost tipping but the bank/berm on side of me was inches away and would have stopped a roll up i woulda been on only two tires. So im pluggin away at this section and im like wtf im stuck i cant make it "Gerry winch me out" So he goes to hook the winch to my hook and and the look on his face..I could just tell I was gonna like it. So i get out of the car to see this Image

Winched my truck slowly to some workable ground and was able to get here.

well that was horrifying to me because well doo doo I just had a new engine replaced, were miles into the woods with low battery on our FRS. I didnt have a jack but thankfully my buddy had two 2 ton jacks we were able to use and get the new tire on. Took some digging so we would be able to slide the full size spare on but got the job done.

Now I used to run my tires at 15-18psi but then today decided to go to 12.

Did the bead rolling off the rim have anything to do with that and the stock kj rim?

Dont think I need to go as far as beadlock rims but definitely maybe some soft 8s;
whats the benefit of replacing rims? I mean I know material, steel vs alloy but do aftermarket rims have a better grip for the bead or something? I gouged the doo doo out of my rims today on all the rocks, and this mishap today is always an excuse to say i need new rims.

You were just too low on psi for any rim without beadlocks........ Yeah that's all I got to say.

It happens and OE rims tend to have this issue over aftermarket.Beadlocks are not really need till you want to run real low psi's like under 10 or have to narrow of tires mounted for your rims.

Check out my L/R tire in the pic below,16x7 rim with 265/75's at 12psi and no I did not break the bead.

It's just wierd that I see the oe rim and there's like nothing to grip not even like a slit, dosent seem right. So if I'm gonna do more wheeling like this I need a aftermarket rim basically?

Would not say you need aftermarket, part of it was the angle that the KJ was sitting and all the weight thrown to that side, plus pressure of the bank pushing on the side wall etc. It may have happened with any aftermarket wheel. Have seen it before, just hit the right way and it pops the bead.
Personally I wouldn't even think about it for 2 seconds, just part of wheeling

Alrighty, well my rims are certainly scratched up enough now to warrant new ones but maybe its is just part of wheeling and once I get my sliders on, ill buy a highlift and that tire change woulda taken 20mins instead of an hour

Some people wonder why I carry around starting fluid on the beach. The guy in this video did could have gotten hurt the way he did it.

ive seen that before but better to be safe and use the fullsize spare and then have the tire done properly imo

but anyway in my case, the entire tire and rim were gunked with mud so there was no way that was happening even If one tried to do that w/ fluid

I did that before, popped the bead in a mud hole. Bit of advice, take the tire off the rim and clean it out. I didn't and spent 6 months with balancing issues.

I mount tires like this all the time, except that I also spray the sidewall from the bead to the tread and light that. Puts me a little further from the action. I used to use the redneck flame thrower and while fun, my current way seems much safer.

Well the mounting is cake. you measure equal distance on each side and mark where u think the lights should go. On the Driver side keep it left a little or your windshield wiper will touch it when moving. use something to mark where u want to drill and stand back, take a good look at it. Get it the way you want then just drill a hole. I think i used 5/16 but depends on what lights you use. I got the pilot lights from vatozone 40$ not to shabby, only used for offroading and nighttime snow driving or when @$#%s cut me off theyll get blinded and move.

There is a piece of styrofoam under where you will be drilling, after drilling remove those, they have glue but they just pop out if u tug at it. Tighten the bolts and then you must begin the wiring. I did no do my wiring because electronics and potential truck fires scare me even though i have an extinguisher next to my seat.
You may want to drill a small hole behind thn lights to run the wire also.

nope, you can remove the styrofoam piece first to double chck if you want., its not incredible strong but strong enough, if you get a large washer to increase the surface area on the underside of the plastic it gets stronger
