| Post subject: | CV Boot Issues.....again |
First thing is first, please give valid input. And keep the conversation on track. March 2010 I blew my inner passenger CV boot. I then went on to purchase the Rockford CV replacement boot (crap). About two months later the RCV boot blew again. Replaced it with another RCV boot. It blew again about 3 weeks later. So after racking my brain and some other Dayton fellas brains, we decided to go back to Mopar CV Boots. Much sturdy plastic/rubber. You can feel a huge difference in the RCV and Mopar, being Mopar is better quality. So now here we are middle of November. My radiator gets a crack and I go to get it replaced. While replacing it, I noticed some boot grease. The outerr boot clamp for the inner passenger boot was gone. So I replaced the missing clamp with another clamp from a clamp kit, the ones with the teeth. Today I noticed more grease and the same boot clamp is missing again! Anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this? Pressure? Bad boot? Bad clamp? I am sitting at 22.5 in the front. During the whole time above, I haven't been wheeling at all. |

If it was me I would just get a new CV from Napa. They are not to expensive. |

There isn't anything wrong with the CV at all. Well I guess you can't be 100% certain. We were thinkign maybe too much grease or an air bubble. |

There is a lot of movement in the libby Cv's. Maybe the replacement boots can't take it. |

Sounds like the clamp is the problem. I have never used a replacement boot I just replace the part. Thats what I would do. |

Hose clamp, works everytime. You can never get new CV boot clamps tight enough to seal and stay put like the OE ones(there welded). To get aftermarket clamps to work you need to make sure that the inner boot area that the clamp goes on and the surface on the CV that the boot seals is 100% clean and greas free which is virtually impossible unless you do not use any CV grease. |

With the rotation, won't a hose clamp work loose? |

If you read my post from "what did you do with your KJ today" you will get a chuckle about how I broke 1 cv clamp then bought some "universal clamps" and those got too loose. I asked the guy there about the hose clamp and 2 employees quickly said NO! You can not use hose clamps for CVs. I should have known better than to listen to those 2 freaks. Tomorrow I pick up some hose clamps and get it done! Do you need to do anything special to the hose clamps to make them stay or as is is good enough? |

You might need smaller width hose clamps. The ones I got were too large to fit in the groove on the boot and didn't work. |
