| Post subject: | 200K Used and Abused (UPDATE) |
Since becoming a member of this site I have done quite a bit to my jeep.. 2.5 Rustys suspension lift Differential change front and back... oil change...trans fluid and filter change...spark plugs...air filter..oil...rage roof basket.. OK running 265 75 16s on stock rims...thats been tripping my trans temp light...i had my roof basket loaded and hauling 3 adults....at first i thought it was wind resistance...pulled gear off and stuffed it into the cab...after 30 miles it came back on...fortunately i remember reading some posts about that tire size and turned off my overdrive...that seemed to solve the problem until i ran up steep hills on the interstate and the trans temp light still came on...(i have a few codes that popped up on that trip/ transmission related) i used to run 245 75 16s with no problem like that at all... without switching over to 4:10s what can i do about the trans temp issue...? at this point im ready to switch back to 245s.... BTW im at 217K and i did take it to mexico....

On mine I used a 02 radiator and ran the trans cooler in that radiator in line with the stock stand alone cooler. The light has never came on again even while climbing to over 13,000 feet in four low. |

Its the bigger tires, when I went to the 4.10s my temp dropped between 16 and 20 degrees OD off will help but swapping to 245-75s or 4.10s is the best solution |

I have the heavy duty cooling option that came with the kj and the trans cooler that also was on it when i bought it new.... so youre saying that i can run my transmission fluid through a normal radiator? even if i did that id still have to drive with my OD off because of the constant up-down shift...? does that put too much stress on the tranny ? yeah..i think as much as i like the look and feel of 265s im gonna have to switch back over to 245s... so at 217K what should i be paying attention to in terms of repairs..? is the timing belt/chain gonna go and ruin my valves or is that just a CRD thing? oh yeah i trimmed my front bumper today (total hack job) and while crawling around down there i looked at my motor mounts and they were TRASHED...(those things have been squeaking like crazy about three years into my ownership) so tensioners and motor mounts on my todo list... any other advise? |

The Rev Tom is probably right about your tire size.(gear change or 245s) As far as the radiator, on the 02 the trans cooler is part of the radiator. Were as on the 04 the trans cooler is a stand alone cooler I just use both of them in line with each other. |

Even if you instal 10 trans coolers it will help some BUT you will still have it shifting back and forth thus causing slippage in the trans more and more with the amount of miles you have on yours this is not something you want smaller tires or lower gears, ....final answer |
