Post subject:  Installing dash mount winch controls

Anybody done this already? I'm looking for a good location to mount the switches. This will be two switches, a master arm switch with an indicator light and a control switch, self centering 3 position toggle switch.

First thought was overhead. I don't have and evic or sunroof or anything else up there so a little box mounted above the mirror with the arm switch and winch control switch. This will be out of the way and easy to reach with my right hand. Considering puting a couple extra switches in for roof and accessories. Can be operated by the driver or passenger.

Second option is to mount a box on top of the dash to the left of the instrument cluster. Easy operation with my left hand and easy to reach into the vehicle and operate the controls.

third option is to mount the switches directly onto the A pillar just above or below the grab handle. again out of the way but easy to use while standing next to the vehicle.

Thoughts and suggestions?

If you're running a Warn winch, they make a cool wireless controller (I'm sure that other brands do too). Way more versatile than being tied to the vehicle during winching ops. Especially when performing a self recovery operation. Just my :2cents: and a practicle alternative to vehicle mounted controls. I have it and it's pretty cool and easy to use.

Thanks, Consider it and decided against wireless. I've forgoten the wired controller before so its not a stretch for me to forget the wireless controller, or not be able to find it when I need it, or the battery be dead or, it gets tossed into the glove box and gets smashed by the flashlight I throw in there, or a hundred other things I can think of.

I want hard mounted controls so they are always there, available, not dependant on my memory or packing skills. :D
