| Post subject: | Installing Front Tow Hooks Questions |
I just bought a set of tow hooks for my CRD. Got all the brackets and bolting hardware for $35. The question is how do i get the front bumper off to get the one nut bracket into the frame? |

If by the one nut bracket, you mean the bolt that looks like an 'M', it is easy. You just have to slide it through one hole, then out the other. If you want to take off the bumper, it is very easy, only about 4 bolts. You also must take out the grill it only snaps out. Under the plastic shell, there are 2 black "crush caps". They come off with one bolt. When I get to a computer I will post some more info. Unless someone posts it before me. |

Open hood Remove your grill - 4 T20 torx across the top, lean it forward and lay your grill somewhere safe Unbolt the 2 10mm bolts under your fascia at the airdam Press in the red retainer on your light harness plug, use your thumb nail to pull the red clip down till it stops, press down the hinge clip and wiggle the plug till it separates use a thin screw driver to leverage out the 7 reuseable push-pin type rivets [1 to the bottom edge of each headlight, 5 across the grill backbone supports] - put them somewhere safe It may help if you have something similar to snap ring pliers to leverage the pins out of the inserts There's either 2 or 3 rivets through the fender flares and wheel well plastic that interfere, you can either drill them out, or cut the heads off with a pair of wire cutters - I used a brake spring tool to grab and squeeze in the stupid plastic wedge retainer pieces that are serrated to get the clips out of the fender Wiggle the fascia around and loosen it up, lift it up and pull the bottom out, adjust the flares so that the bottom most edge is now behind and under the fascia, check to make sure you don't have a 2nd lighting harness plug (i didn't have a 2nd) - gently lift up on the tabs where the bumper hooks in below the headlights and get it unhooked, it just takes some monkeying around - put the fascia somewhere safe like out in the grass or something Remove the caps held on by a 10mm bolt install the hooks and repeat in reverse order ---- The rivets in the fascia/flare area aren't reusable, so you'll need something to replace them with |

You don't have to remove the bumper if you got the correct harware. How about posting up a pic of it. |

The OP has a 2006, so JeepinJarhead's directions are about 90 percent correct. The rivets in the wheel well are reusable. The only light harness in the bumper will be for the parking lights. I've had my bumper trimed for a while, so I don't remember how many screws are underneath. I know there is a write up somewhere and I have it saved, but once again I'm on my phone. Either way it is very easy. |

good to know they went with reusables finally, the reusables on the earlier KJ's didn't go far enough up to get the fascia out easily.. at least on mine they didn't a few may have been replaced at some point who knows |

Thanks guys for your help. No pics but it was pretty straight forward once the front bumper was removed. There is two metal cups that cap off the end of the frame rails. Remove the 10mm bolt and access is gained to put the piece that holds the two studs that mounts the tow hooks. Tighten the four 15mm nuts and two 15mm bolts and trim the plastic off the bumper and you are done. Thanks Again! |

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which tow hooks to get. I have googled it and found plenty of options but everything seems to vary in price. |
