My 2006 KJ is 2000mi. new to me. It's an export Jeep. Around The vin number has not matched exact descriptions on the US models when I looked it up. I wish I could remember where. The thing is, in the city I can't compare mileage due to the driving style here but on the highway I only get about 14.7MPG. The highways here are very up and down, almost never flat. The engine seems to run strong and smooth. I replaced the air filter because it was dirty. It's an automatic so comparing RPM is difficult at 60mph. Is it possible some export Jeeps have factory 4:11? 265/70/16 or am I dreaming? I didn't find any tags on the rear diff nor have I removed the diff cover yet. If I remove the front skid plate I think that one has a tag but will it say gear ratio? [Insert panting dog here]

I assume you have a 3.7? Then you probably have 3.73 gears. 265/70/16 never came stock. 235/70/16 was the biggest size.

Sorry, Yes it has the 3.7. The stock tires are small as you mention. It now has stealies. I ordered a frankenlift and some Moab’s that will arrive around Christmas. I was definitely going to go with 245/75/16 after reading here BUT if I somehow had oem 4:11's or 10's then I would seriously be looking at 265/70/16's. I remember reading on lost somewhere that some very rare KJ's had different gear ratio's. "possibly some rare export ones"? Maybe I'll change the diff oil and count in a couple of days because of my possibly and most probably unwarranted anxiety. :P

And 245-75s and 265-70s are about the same height, the 265-70s just being a little wider and would work great on the 8 inch wide MOABS
You'll need 4.10s if going to 265-75s

Thank you, I didn't realize the 245 vs. 265 height thing. I remembered reading many times here that with the 265/70's the gear change was necc. hence I thought the height was more different. I know it's most likely more work in the wheel well. I've got lots of ring and pinions around but not for the 8 1/4.
I am also awaiting two sets plugs and lot's of spare filters in shipment. Now I'm seriously considering taking a flight to Florida $500.00 for a part purchasing trip. I've been shopping tires here but the Hankook's are the only thing I can find fitting the size. I wish I would have sent some KM2's in the previous shipment.
Runability seems to be great but I am new to this used Jeep and will take your advice.

265-70s gear change not needed really
what you have been reading is about 265-75
big difference
for example with a BFG AT
stock size at least on mine 235-70-16, 29.1 height
then 245-75-16 30.5
265-70-16 30.7
265-75-16 31.7

the gear changes on the 265-70 or even 245-75 that people tend to want are usually due to E rated tires

If you can find a 4CYL KJ in panama you might get lucky and strip the diff's out of it and get 4.10's otherwise slide over to Florida and go shopping

I went from 235/75R17 to my new setup with 265/70R16 and I mean you can tell a power loss but not enough to regear. I might regear down the road but deff not a must.
