Ditching the swaybars???

Just wondering if anyone on here had taken the swaybars off their Libby. I have done this in the past with awesome results on other vehicles. I just want more travel and flex outta my suspension. I understand that this hurts your handling on the road but I don't really care about that. Thoughts peoples....... :CAMPING:

You can remove the rear safely
but not the front ( at least not for daily driving)
some disconnect when off road but thats it

Look at it, there are only 4 bolts I think. If ya can't figure that out -shouls you really be driving? :ROTFL:

Just take the 4 bolts out. There's 2 on each side holding the rear sway.

I've been running with out my rear sway bar for a while driving 60 miles every day and to be honest I haven't noticed any difference in handling.

I understand that RED_KJ_666 has removed his front sway bar from his Libby for more flex. The only drawback is a bit more body roll on corners.

Just because one person may be doing it does not make it safe,
You need to keep the front hooked up on the road.
Unhooked would be way unsafe
again common sense should come into play

I drive in MOAB all the time and have never removed either sway bar... but I hear rumor the terrain around KY is much more intense.

my rear is long gone. the front i drove around for a few days. with the sway bar removed on the front there is tons of body roll. sucked going so slow around corners, not saying i corner fast just saying it was really bad at first. i checked my tire pressure and they were at 30psi. normally have em at 32 but it had been getting cold so maybe it dropped a couple. i upped it to 38psi and the cornering improved quite a bit, ride was a lot bumpier, and was a little more tolerable but still not great. i would say its definitely not something to do on a dd cause it is unsafe if you were to have to do a quick maneuver. off road i noticed nothing really but measured flexed out and gained 1/2" down travel and 1" up travel. i sure as hell gained a lot of front tire rub with the 265/75s though!

The rear flexes just fine with the bar. Mine will stuff the rears to the point of rubbing, and droop the rears to the point of almost losing a spring. It's got plenty of flex with the bar attached. The FRONT is where the KJ is in desperate need of help. Some quick disconnects would probably be ideal.

if you want a taste of what your swaybar being disconnected would feel like, go out and flip your swaybar links around backwards and drive around the block and make a few left hand turns

do not under any circumstance drive on road with your front swaybar disconnected, we already lost a SFA kj to this, would prefer to not lose any kj's or KJ owners to the same mistake

If you had some basic fabbing skills you could adapt the Currie Anti-Rock swaybar on the front.That is what I use and though it is not as "stiff" as the OE swaybar it makes street driving 100% safer then no swaybar.best thing is no need to disconnect for offroad as they are designed not to limit flex and actually maintain better traction.

The rear swaybar on a KJ really serves no purpose since it is only bolted to the LCA's and not to the uniframe.Just 4 18mm bolts and fish it out,having the rear jacked up with the axle hanging at max droop helps fishing it out.Takes 5mins to remove and 3 mins of that is jacking the rear up.

No to poping the coils out as the tri-link and shocks will limit the travel then.

like i said before, i do not have the know how or the tools to do the job. :mrgreen:

i can look at a jeep and tell you the year, model, trim package, etc etc...but i couldn't take a rear sway bar off. i've installed my sony xplode headunit and my cb radio. but as far as other mods go i.e. lift kit etc etc. i couldn't do it...i can do simple stuff
