I'm new to the sight and one of the things I was thinking about doing on my 06 Lib. is installing some upfront protection in the way of a Bull Bar. Looking at a few different ones, trying to keep $$ down. Anyone have any suggestions? Been looking at one made by Westin in powder coat black that seem fairly reasonable and simple install.

They provide no protection at all , they actually cause more damage if you do hit something, they are very thin metal and will bend easy and rust in a very short time
They are for looks only

Thank's for the information. I suspected the same thing but more convinced with other opinions. Guess if I want something real solid, have to design and have it built for the strength.

Best I've seen looking in the last two years is the ARB( and some peeps custom fabs).

I have a no name push bar that cost very little, but as tommud said they do rust, bend and also wobble a bit barely a good light bar.

BHC, if you design something let me check it out... maybe I can get some one near me to do it up... good luck!

Biggest issue with brush guards and bullbars:

They mount to where your towhooks normally go. So you can't have both.

I have the westin on mine. It looks good, but the mounting brackets need to be more solid than they are. It's fine for mounting some extra lights and looks, but useless for protecting the front end...

As most have already mentioned the bull bar/brush guards available actually provide no protection nor function, and are for esthetics only.

Though most use the towhook mounts for installation, on many you can re-install the towhooks under the bull bar mounting bracket and still have functioning towhooks. (Before I installed the ARB bumper I had a bull bar, with towhooks re-installed, used them for recovery with out issue even though the instructions stated to remove the towhooks)

If you want a functional bull bar for protection and recovery ARB or home fab is really the only way to go.

i have it on mine, it looks cool and all but is really useless. the mounting brackets just bend and it just gets all messed up.

Yeah im not sure of the brand in mine as it was five years ago when my dad installed it. But someone must have backed in or somehow hit the bullbar on the lower part of it and bent it in pretty darn good. one of the upper mounts just cut into the actual bumper and left a nice sized cut/dent. Overall they make it look pretty but they make damage worse, unless your using it to keep some weak brush off your bumper.

They also reduce your approach angle some because they usually ride a lil lower than the bumper skin.
