Do you use the 2 holes beneath the bumper for D Ring shackles? The steel seems really thin there and not enough to hold up to pulling with a shackle attached. I'm thinking of simple strap recovery or if I ever need to use the KJ as an anchor when winching other rigs.

What do you all do? :?:

Not sure which two holes you speak of?

Tomm, I believe he's speaking of the D-ring/shackle provisions on the bumper mount.

Don't fret MojaveKJ, they're plenty strong. I've yanked a forklift, a Ram2500 and a few other things out of the snow and out of the mud with a snatch strap firmly anchored to the bumper with a 3/4" pin shackle. There is zero distortion of the shackle mounts after all that jerking. Yeah, you saw it here first, jerking.

Great! The mounting points seem a bit flimsy to look at them. Also, do you do anything to prevent the shackle from tilting on an angle when pulling, like spacers on both sides? Or is it no big deal if they tilt in the mounting point.

I'll try to post a pic later...

They are quite strong for sure
Tilting ? What size shackle are you using ?
I had some smaller diameter pins I used for a while and just used large washers on each side
not the best picture but first one I found, can see a red shackle so this is where you mean ?

Those are the mounting points I'm talking about, though yours look like much thicker steel than mine. Maybe ARB changed the design? I'll post a close up of the shackle and mounting point on my ARB. The same place on my bumper is maybe 1/16" steel and looks like it would bend with a good side hit from a sledge hammer. I'll try to post pics tonight. Please post any close up pics you may have of your shackles and mounting points. Thanks Tom.

does this help more? In this picture I have two thick washers on one side Trust me though I have seen other ones and they won't bend with what you'll put them through, mines hit rocks etc and they've never bent

Yes it does, thanks Tom. I also see now that the point where the shackle mounts is thickened and reinforced as well. I am going to post pics of the tilting shackle and of the nicely "boxed" area above those mounting points.

I like the idea of the washers; are those from a regular hardware store or did you get high grade washers? An the red shackles look cool.

Thanks again...
