How do I know which TC I have? Ive been getting the shudder within the past couple of months and it gets a little worse every couple of weeks.

Sooo other than 42rle (im assuming thats my tranny?) how do I know what model TC to get?

In doing some reading on this site theres talk of changing the pump while im changing the TC. What pump are they talking about and is it a good idea to change it?

Also any write ups on how to change a TC?

Thanks

yes you have the 42RLE, good trans shop should be able to tell you which one you need based on your VIN. might not be much if any difference between them though. Not sure about changing pump or why but it is the pump that the TC engages.

Most of the torque converter complaints are from CRD land - the original ones couldn't hold and we had lots of shutter problems.

don't think the gassers have had many problems - although not many are at 216k - I'd expect you just need a standard tranny rebuild from the mileage.

ok cool...thanks guys...

the stealership quoted me at $150 to run a tranny diagnostic...is that worth it or is there another way...?

so now im not pinpointing the TC but now considering the tranny rebuild...but if a tranny diagnostic is worth it ill do that first...

thanks

There is an issue with the Valve body in higher mileage KJs from what I've read. Mine is back to a terrible shutter from a stop abut half the time. 220 something thousand Km's probably close to 230 something. The fist time it started doing it I Changed the fluid/Filter filled it with Royal Purple Fluid and added a bottle of transMedic for good measure that was 30,000KM ago, and it was good until recently.
