In my preparations for Pastafari 2011 I rolled under my recently acquired CRD and realized my skid plate situation, nada. I have looked through the skidplate thread and see that the mopar skidplates are much cheaper therefore I am going to assume they aren't as strong. Now here is my question. In an effort to save some cash what skidplates can be the OEM and provide adequate protection and which ones should I buy after market? I also need to know which ones are the most critical as well. My jeep is a stocker and probably the extent of my rock crawling will be parking lentils and I do not plan on lifting at this time since it will mainly be a dd. I would appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks. |

I would think you could get by with a Mopar gas tank skid. But up front you will need something stronger since you have a heavy CRD. Check the for sale section somebody has a Rusty's skid for sale for 125. |

Mopar tranny skid is worthless... especially on dirt roads in MOAB during a snow storm..... don't even get me started. |

Alright, that is exactly what I needed to know. I have the mopar engine skid and will be looking at getting the mopar gas tank skid and then an aftermarket tranny skid as well. Thank you all for the help. |

Thank you all for the help. Might want to pick up a transfer case skid OE part #82209455 it was one I was missing and got some feedback here it's worth protecting the aluminum transfer case just to be safe. Factory is cheap - about $50 for peace of mind insurance. Have all factory skids and have had no major issues other than scrapes and rust. Just finished cleaning up and repainting them all, and followed another user's advice and pre-painted and clearcoated the new xfer case skid to avoid crud and rust like the others.

Asfir makes some awesome skids i have a set on order right now. And since they now have a location in AZ they are cheap to ship and strong as he!! plus they give a discount to us LOST members. Plus they were orginally built for the use on the CRD and no worries about rusting or to much wieght Aluminium just like BOILER |

With the correct formulation aluminums strength can equal steels plus weight and corrosion resistance are nice to. I know everyone is hesitant towards Aluminum but I am more then willing to try it out. |

Mopar skids- Engine- Good Tranny- Doodoo T-Case- Good enough Gas tank- Good enough That should sum it up. I have a smashed up Mopar t-case skid you can have if you like. JL Rockies might even bring it to pastafari for you if you give him some uncrustables. |

Aluminum tends to crack under constant vibration. |

I could find some uncrustables to bring for JL Rockies if he would bring the skid plate. I am picking up my tranny skid tomorrow and was not planning on a transfer skid, but I like the price. What flavor does JL Rockies like? |
