| Post subject: | 4 Wheel Drive Shakes |
Hey guys, Just a quick question about something that has been worrying me... I have a 2002 Liberty Sport. Whenever I am in 4 wheeldrive, and I take a slow, sharp turn, the Jeep shakes/jerks a lot. This doesn't happen when I am in 2-wheel. Its kind of hard to explain, but is this normal? can I fix this? has anyone else experienced this? I have no lift, no nothing. Just stock wheels/rims. Thanks! -Patrick. |

Is this when you're driving on hard pavement? If so, then that's a big no-no. Only put your Jeep in 4-wheel drive when you're on loose dirt, snow, etc. If it happens on loose dirt, then you should have it checked out. |

does your 4wd lever say 2HI-----4HI-----N------4LO, or does it say 2HI------4FULL------4PART------N------4LO? that'll help us answer your question |

As everyone said, that's normal. Normal and not too healthy. It's what is referred to as "binding." In a sharp turn, your tires all need to spin at different speeds. 4 wheel drive (4HI, 4LO and/or 4-PART) forces your wheels to spin at the same rate, which makes the tires jerk and shake and grab and "bind" during a turn on dry pavement. 4-FULL is a little bit better, but I still even get a bit of binding in that setting when I try to turn hard in the dry parking garage after coming in out of the inclement weather. |

cool, thanks for the info guys. My 4wd lever says 2HI-----4HI-----N------4LO. I'm always in 2HI, unless theres snow or ice on the roads. Then I go to 4HI. I rarely, if ever, use 4LO. Is it better to be in 4LO or 4HI in the snow? -Patrick. |

It all depends on your speed, if youre going really slow up or down a driveway, 4low, on the streets, 4hi. Ill never understand why people think full time can bind, it makes the tcase an open differential, its all in your head. |

Sounds to me like he has the best lookin Liberty available, according to his signature:P 4 high in the snow. 4 high for all conditions that aren't putting a heavy strain on your engine/transmission. when you're going up a steep grade, or trying to run over something big (not a really good idea with a stock KJ BTW) you don't want to be in 4wd Low. |
