I finally bought my wheel spacers today. 2 pair of Spidertrax 1.25" spacers to allow me to better accomodate my 265/75's that are waiting to go on. Now, all I need is for the Frankenlift to get here....its killing me...

I've been thinking about spacers for the same reason. I've heard concerns about their safety. Has anyone run these long term? How safe or unsafe are they??

I paid $260 for 2 pair. Found them on eBay. Free shipping, from CO, so I should have them soon. As for the safety factor, as long as they are a reputable spacer and installed correctly, they should be fine. Just one more thing to were out the ball joints!!

Yikes! Only paid $100 for all 4 of mine (6061 alum).

Just an FYI, I had the same spacers on our KJ and wound up taking the front ones off. The 245/75's rubbed ALOT in the front on stock tires. They would rub while turning on flat ground. Thought about cutting the liners but don't really want to do that.

Spidertrax are the best. They are also the most expensive. You get what you pay for.

Yeah, I was going to get the ones from RRO. After the OTT lift experience, I was skeptical to go that route, plus they were more expensive as well.

Well, when they are made from the EXACT same material (6061), custom fit for jeep hubs, and have all the correct grade of mounting hardware I am not sure how Spidertrax are any different than the onces I purchased other than they are anodized.....

Time will tell.

If I'm not mistaken the 6061 standard only defines the metals content and says nothing about how it was worked. I'm no expert but I could see where the manufacturing process could make a difference. Working them at too high a speed could cause heat build up that could impact the metal. Too low a speed could cause stress related damage to the metal. There is also no way to tell how the initial ingot is formed. Then there is the security factor if one should break I would think its going to be easier to find a company like ST than Some guy off ebay.

Reality is there is most likely no difference between the eBay and ST spacers. There are lots of high quality suppliers of metal and lots of guys with the machinery and knowledge to work it properly. But what if there is difference?

Anodizing the spacers keeps them from corroding. ST spacers are double anodized.

Let us know when you get these mounted up. It has always been my impression that spacers cause more rub rather than "accomodate" the larger tires. At the best they will simply move the rubbing off the swaybar but increase it on the wheel liner and pinch weld. Just be prepared to do some cutting and pounding with that size tire.

Speaking from experience, you will have to trim the fender wells and flatten out the pinch welds. The spacers increase the wheel track and give you a sense of more stability though.

It also looks meaner!

Post subject:  1.25" spacers

Ok, I've been reading the boards for a little over a month now, so I'm still a newbie, but since I just picked up my KJ Renegade two days ago, I thought that it's about time I make my first post.

Joe, how exactly are the wheel spacers illegal in PA? I thought the only law in PA was that the outermost part of the fender must cover all but one tread width of the tire. Please elaborate.

You could still get the same wide stance from an aftermarket steel or aluminum wheel with 3.75 or 4'' of backspacing. Your comment makes it sound like running those wheels on a KJ would be illegal too. Like I said before, please elaborate.

Dude for that kind of money you could buy a set of 4 NEW wheels in black or chrome and choose your own backspacing! Then it would be perfectly safe and legal too! And you'd have a separate set of wheels for 'wheeling!

Yeah, I realize that, but I don't want to deal with swapping out rims/wheels to go wheeling, not to mention finding a place to store them around my house. Plus, I really like the stock Renegade rims...

Once, they're all chewed up though, I'll get steel wheels, and sell the spacers...

Spacers over 1/4" are not permitted in PA. At the very least, you should fail state inspection.
