Hi guys and gals , me again. I have several questions and I hope someone can help. 1. Do 15 inch rims really fit. I have been told by the guys at roccky- road that they don't, but I see pictures of KJs on this sight that say they are 15 inch wheels. If so, what is the backspace? 2. does anybody know if they make a throttle body spacer for an 02 kj. I see them listed for 03 and 04. 3. How much does it effect the speedo reading when you change to the 245-75 size tire? Does anybody make a speedo corrector for the lib?5. Are there any of you guys here in the St. Louis area? I have questions. Who has the Answers. Thanks

Wade,
1.)I know SOME 15" wheels will fit, i would try doing a search to see exactly what kind and what the specs are...

2.)The TBS (Throttle Body Spacer) for the 03-04 SHOULD fit the 02, someone please correct me if i'm wrong...

3.) 245/17/16 tires will throw off the speedo about 5%...The speedo corrector is actually built in, it's all computer controlled, it just needs to be calibrated...the dealer will be able to do that for you, not sure how much it will cost though, as there have been various reports...

4.)Nope, I'm not in the St. Louis area :D

savage is right...i got my speedo recalibrated at the dealer...Usually they will charge you the price that it costs to connect the OBDII code reader to the vehicle (usually a hour of diagnostic time). The price varies depending on dealer and where you are. My dealer quoted me $80 for it. I know mechanics make their money based on how fast they perform a job and the only get a part of the labor charge. So if labor costs $80 per hour (not uncommon), the mechanic might get $15-$25.

I offered a mechanic who was on a cigarette break $40 cash to do it after hours. He jumped on the deal. Some mechanics might be hesitant as the dealership probably doesn't like this. But it was win/win-I paid less, he got paid more. Any shop with a code reader should be able to this though. I know some tire places will do this (especially if they sell lift kits or off road tires). Often times they may do it for free or cheap because you bought your tires through them.

Actually, I would say Throttle body spacer = performance loss. TBS's are designed for carborated engines, not fuel injected.

if a throttle body spacer makes the air more turbulent inside the combustion chamber-I can see it working... That's why those Tornado Fuel Savers don't work is because the throttle body blocks them off. If the air is turbulent and swirling you will get a better burn in the combustion chamber because the air will mix with the gas better.

People often forget that liquid gas is not very flammable. It is only the vapors that explode. If you ever see a fuel injector working, it sprays fuel out in little droplets over a large area to allow the liquid to become a gas better. I think the correct term is fuel atomization (someone please correct me if I am wrong).

Now if it can cause more turbulent airflow (preferably in a swirling motion) to mix the air and fuel better-it would increase horsepower. Look at aftermarket intake manifolds. They are designed to give you more turbulent airflow and the spacer is merely an extension of the intake manifold,

That being said I have never used one so I can't say if they work or not. Their theory is valid though...I would prefer an aftermarket intake manifold (can you hear me Mr. Edelbrock?)...A decent intake manifold on a V6 like the KJ would be good for around 10-15 horsepower whereas a throttle body spacer would probably only see gains in the 1-5 horsepower range because it is placed so far up stream from the combustion chambers.

I have mixed emotions about the throttle body spacers. I put one on a 94 ford 4x4 with a 302 in it and it made a big difference. The truck would spin the tires from take off and would kick down sooner when getting on the throttle at highway speeds, like when you go to pass someone. So I know they work. But, I also put one on my 04 liberty limited and I did not notice a single difference! The reason I don't know if the spacer for an 03-04 liberty will work on my 02 is because when I ordered my k&N fipik II for my 04 liberty it wouldn't work,so I had to put it on my 02 sport. I bought it from ebay and the ad said 02-04 liberty, but the intake track was completley different on the two!

All previos posts are correct but the reason for the tsb working better on an older engine is because the throttle body had the injectors built into them (throttle body injection) thus giving the gas and air more time to mix. on newer engines they are all port injected or multiport injected (injectors are spraying gas directly into combustion chamber) thus gas and air do not mix as well as in throttle body injection. All the tsb does on the newer engines is speed up air velocity, witch doesn't help air fuel mixture in cylinder ( combustion chamber) as much thus less noticeable performance gains.

Dutchman, I notice two things wrong with your post:

1: multiport injection does not inject fuel directly into the combustion chambers. The injectors actually send fuel into the intake manifold near the combustion chamber, but not it. Direct injection (not common in North America due to our low quality of fuel) actually injects fuel into the combustion chambers.

2: A multiport engine mixes fuel and air better then a Throttle Body Injected motor. Direct Injection works the best. Or were talking about the throttle body injected motors mixing better with the throttle body spacer then a multiport engine with the same space? If that is the case then you are probably correct.

Hey Joe you are correct and correct

First- correct about the injectors being in intake just in front of intake. Me being a diesel tech I was talking gas but thinking diesel OOPS! although the direct inject is around as you said not as common yet in gassers.

Second -I meant that the TBS works better on the Throttle body injected engines versus multiport.

I installed P245/75R16 tires and it slowed my speedo by 2.5 mph. I used my GPS to find the difference.

If throttle body spacers worked, why wouldn't every new vehicle have them from the factory???
